What is so special about the steamboat/hot pot offering from Secret Garden. For us, there are 3 things that make a perfect steamboat. The first is the broth, second will be the ingredients and the third is the sauce that goes with your cooked ingredients.

A little secret for you is that one of the core founders of Secret Garden is also the founder of Yezi; which offers premium steamboat to its' patron; needless to say, the offering at Secret Garden is comparable in quality.

We started our steamboat review with a Salmon Yee Sang

As above, there is 2 soup base on offer at Secret Garden. We opted for the Imperial Chicken Broth (RM78.00) which is boiled overnight using chicken, dried ham and dried scallop to ensure the full flavours extraction from all the ingredient that was used. The use of village chicken makes this broth extremely tasty. We took the first spoonful and all of us agreed on the rich broth was so good, we can have this with some white rice.

The collagen-rich broth was ideal that every time we put some ingredient into the pot, we will taste out the soup, and it never fails us to want more of it.

The way to truly appreciate this Taiwanese Hot Pot is to ensure that ingredients are simmered in according to a sequence in which the staff at Secret Garden will be on hand to assist you to get the best of the steamboat/ hot pot meal.

Handmade Fish Paste

The second criteria of a good steamboat are the ingredient, here at Secret Garden, all the seafood balls and paste are hand made, which means quality and original flavours are as expected.

HotPot Kitchen - 1Utama - Delicious Pick Your Own Spicy Hot Pot

Front Entrance of Hot Pot Kitchen 1Utama
If you love spicy food and like to only choose your own vegetables, meat or seafood at your own quantity, you now have a choice at the newly open HotPot Kitchen 1Utama.

HotPot Kitchen Address
G355, 1 Utama Shopping Centre (New Wing), Bandar Utama City Centre Bandar Utama Petaling Jaya, Malaysia.

Normally when you order your food; the portion of meat and the type of vegetables are determined by the shop but here at Hot Pot Kitchen 1Utama, you can hand picked the quantity and the type of vegetables and meats that suit your palate and stomach.

With this new concept, you do not need to eat those vegetables or meats that you do not like as you can pick only those that you would consume.

Vegetables Selection

Our Selection of Vegetables

Eating at Hot Pot Kitchen is simple; first, you select the vegetable option which ranges from fresh Sawi, Kailan, Beancurd skins, the mushroom of various types from the open top fridge (note: the vegetables are on a rotational basis). Select the type and quantity that you can consume. The price is at RM 3.99 per 100g regardless what the combination of vegetables.

Meat Selection

Our Meat Selection

After that, you can select the type of meats and the in-house made "Yeong Liu" from the next section in a separate bowl. The price for the meat section is at RM 5.99 per 100g regardless what you take i.e. pork belly, beef, prawns and etc.

After that proceed to the counter for a weighing of the selected meat and vegetables. Inform the waiter on your choice of sauce which there is only 2 type which is the natural flavor (non-Spicy) and the Ma Lat (Spicy one which comes with 3 spicy levels).

Hot Pot Kitchen practices self-service, so there are no service charges that are levied on your total bill. Once your dishes are cooked you will need to pick up your meals at the counter.

Our first choice; Natural Flavours. This is great for those that does not like any doses of spiciness, Suitable for children and older folks. Perfect with a bowl of white rice. But there are options to eat it with noodles too.

Our next dish is the Ma Lat Spicy Flavours (Level 2). We really like this, as it is cooked with an in-house made Ma Lat sauce that has been fined tuned to the local taste, Again, a real treat with a bowl of steaming white rice as the sauce has a balanced kick of spiciness coupled with the crunchy fried peanuts that are used to cooked this dish.

The next dish is set to be introduced as a standard item from the menu is the Fried Spicy Lala. Again you can order this when available based on your spicy level. We like this too as it has a penchant strong taste that is wrapped around the clams and makes each bite, a spicy affair.

According to the owners, all the meat and vegetables goes thru an ozone sterilization process before being served. This ensures that pesticide and antibiotics are removed from the meat and vegetables. That is why they can claim that there are No Pesticide, No Antibiotics, and No Hormones.

At HotPot Kitchen One Utama, there is a free flow of Coffee from the coffee vending machines; that patrons can help themselves on; which is a great combination to tone down your taste-bud after the spicy meal.

To lower your spicy effect, HotPot Kitchen serves Hung Fook Tong herbal tea range from Hong Kong. If you are a fan of TVB drama, you would probably have noticed this brand during some of this drama.

Overall, we like the concept of picking what you want and the taste offering especially the Ma Lat spicy option sauce by HotPot Kitchen 1Utama was our favourite.

HotPot Kitchen has just opened a new branch at Sunway Pyramid.

This is a no-frills restaurant setup and its main mission is to let customers enjoy top quality ingredients with some of its exclusive premium broth to take the steamboat to the next level especially for Kepong folks.

There are many premium steamboat set that is served here but for lobster lovers especially yours truly, you can taste this fresh lobster set at RM49.90 per pax. The picture above is for a 2 pax set which includes meatballs, tofu, seafood, vegetables and etc.

At 4Get Hotpots @Kepong, you can also order ala carte wafer thin meat slices; which includes pork, beef, lamb or fish slices to add on; the one we had is the thin sliced pork belly at RM13.90.

or you could order the simple looking but delicious chunky in-house made Hearty Dumpling (RM13.90) which was made by the owners' mother herself.

or try out the boneless Chicken Meat at RM10.90.

For the noodles, if you were to order the Assam Laksa broth, make sure you try out the special beehoon as shown above. After putting it into the broth it looks like lai fun (the type which is for assam laksa) i.e silky smooth but has a more slippery texture compared to that; even if you have overcooked it. Loves slurping it with my assam laksa broth.

For the soup base you can choose either the normal Clear soup broth and Tom Yum soup based. There is no charge for these 2 soup base.

The other 2 soup base we tasted was the premium soup based i.e the Szechuan Spicy - half pot (RM15.00).

and the Assam Laksa - (RM7.00 half pot). The Assam Laksa broth was very flavourful and we had most of our delicacies dipped into this broth. A truly authentic first of its kind steamboat broth and all of us just love it.

At 4Get Hotpot they also serve an array of BBQ seafood which you can read from our next blog. Click Here to go to CEO BBQ.
