OKONOMI SUSHI RESTAURANT @PUBLIKA Mont Kiara – Malaysia First Custom Made Sushi Roll Review

There are many Japanese Sushi Restaurant in Malaysia, Best Restaurant To Eat was invited to review the first to offer; custom made sushi at OKONOMI PUBLIKA located A4-G2-02 Solaris, Dutamas, No.1 Jalan Dutamas, Publika, 50480 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

OKONOMI which stand for "as you like" in Japanese key selling point is to provide fresh & premium ingredients for you to create your own Sushi rolls.

First you decide on the type of rice i.e. the brown rice or the white rice. For the healthy freaks you might like to try the brown rice which we did. more of that later.

Then, you decide the type of maki or Uramaki - Inverted maki where seaweed is inside.

And lastly the type of wrap which is either the seaweed wrap or the soy wrap.

We first started the review with a salad which is the Salmon Salad.

The Salmon is the smoke salmon which; as usually have a tinge of salty taste and was perfect blend to the garden fresh salad and the mayo based dressing.

For our custom made sushi roll it was an Omakase i.e. we let the chef decide as to the best marriage of his ingredients to be used to make a super delicious sushi roll for us.

The chef uses the brown rice, with soy warp and the filling of fried prawns, lobster meat and asparagus. According to Chef Alex, the best combination of a custom made sushi has to be a right combination of something firm, something crunchy so that, each bite of the sushi will experience the different texture and taste.

Next, we had the Mandarin Sushi Chinese New Year special which was laden with mini mandarin oranges.

Even the sauce is a special blend with the mandarin oranges and this sushi is only available for this 2015 Year Of Golden Goat Chinese New Year. If you like mandarin oranges in a sushi you better try this.

After the sushi, we took a breather and try a few matcha infused drinks which is Matcha Latte with Soft Serve Ice Cream.

and followed by Azuki with Soft Serve Latte.

and the Matcha Float.

We continued with a snack food named Crab Korokke, It is a tempura flour infused with  crab meat and fried to a crisp with a homemade tartar sauce for dipping.

Next, we had some pasta dishes; the first of which is the Spicy Seafood Pasta. The pasta that the chef uses was the Angel Hair pasta; which are of the fine type which looks like Vermicelli. The use of this pasta ensures that the sauce are easily coated to the pasta.

Please remind the chef on your spicy level as the standard is very spicy though even for me but it was very addicted with the fresh and bouncy prawns and scallop.

This is then followed by the soft shell crab pasta with a creamy sesame based sauce. I love the fried soft shell crab, which was very crisp and flavourful.

After a round of food, it is time for our second round of dessert, the first of which is the Matcha Lovers Parfait, which is elegantly decorated with Matcha IceCream, Matcha Chocolate, Azuki Beans, Corn Flakes, Glutinous Rice ball and etc. Very filling dessert.

and followed by the Chocolate Lava Cake; as a chocolate fan, I find the chocolate cake a little lacking in the true bitter cocoa taste which I adores.

The Chef mention that he has at first uses a higher concentrates of cocoa but due to the strong taste, many customers find it hard to accept it, so he has since tone down the concoction of butter cocoa to make a milder version instead.

and the last of all the dessert is the Matcha Lava Cake – a truly love affair for Matcha Lover. the strong matcha lava essence was so rich, you almost drown in it. So, at OKONOMI @Publika, it is not just about SUSHI, for Matcha lover, this can be your haven for non stop and everything Matcha.

One of the food that I really enjoyed is the ice cream that are served at OKONOMI; which is in-house made and was very soft and creamy with the right level of sweetness.

Next time, if you yearn for some specialty Sushi or Matcha desserts, head over to OKONOMI @ Publika Mont Kiara for your doses of this lovely dishes.

Moussandra Mediterranean & Tapas Restaurant Solaris Dutamas Publika - A touch of Mediterranean fare in Kuala Lumpur

Yearning for some delicious Greek, Spanish, or Italian? Where can you get all these food in Kuala Lumpur?

The answer is simple, look out for Moussandra Mediterranean & Tapas Restaurant located at A1-1-8 Solaris Dutamas 1, Jalan Dutamas, 50480 Kuala Lumpur, one of the pioneering Mediterranean restaurants in Kuala Lumpur. Moussandra started business in 1996 along Jalan Yap Kwan Seng before moving to Fahrenheit and now at the present location.

It serves a variety of dishes which are specialties dishes to each of these countries. We were introduced to the style of Mediterranean dining. The night started with a few Tapas dishes. Tapas are appetizer serves in small portion and usually the Greek have these with beer and drinks. The Tapas are usually eaten with either Baguette or Pita bread.

First dish on the table was the Berenjenas Picantes which is Pan Fried Eggplant With Chili and Tomato. This dish had a little sourish taste due partly to the tomato based that was used to cook the dish.

Next came the Gambas Al Ajillo which is Garlic Prawn in Olive Oil. The garlic and the olive oil blended well with the very fresh, succulent and firm prawns. One of the popular dishes, that are ordered by many patrons to this restaurant.

The third Tapas, was the Terrina De Pollo which is Chicken Liver Pate. This is a dish you either like it or hate it. For me, I find the Pate have a strong liver taste i.e the chef have used adequate chicken liver to cook it which, is good and its leave an after taste in your mouth.

The fourth Tapas we savour for the night was the Datilles Con Bacon which is Beef Bacon Wrapped Dates Stuffed With Almond. The Bacon was grilled to the right texture and when you bite into you can taste the soft dates and the crunch of the almond in one mouthful.

After our round of Tapas, the first main dish for the night is Pizza Primavera – It is a thin crust pizza topped with grilled eggplant, roasted red peppers, spinach, anchovies, mozzarella and basil to give it an added aroma. We usually have meat based pizza but I was surprised to taste the perfect combination of all the ingredients in one simple pizza.

Lastly we had the Paella Valenciana – It is a Saffron Flavoured Rice with Squid, Clams, Fish, Prawns, Mussels, Chicken, Chicken Sausage & vegetable. It is served in a wok like pan and the used of quality seafood have blended well with the rice.

After finishing our main dish, the first dessert we had was the French Creme Brulee, This is another one of the must order dish here. The Creme Brulee was served with a topping of caramelized brown sugar which, when eaten together with the Creme Brulee was sensational. It leaves a tingling sweetness in your mouth but not too sweet. Most Creme Brulee served at other restaurants are usually the liquid form of brown sugar which, often than not is too sweet. Hats off, to the chef for this wonderful dessert.

To end the night, another dessert that we had was the Vanilla Ice Cream. This is another new twist where the chef have added some Rum to complement with the simple Vanilla Ice Cream.

So, the next time you have a yearn for Mediterranean food, you can give Moussandra a try. Who knows you might fall in love with it. Bon Appetit.

Savaro by Felda Solaris Dutamas Publika by Best Restaurant To Eat

Savaro by Felda

Serving local Malaysian food is always very challenging. Here we get so many different places or hangout that serves any of the local favourite specialities. But, sometime it might be tough to get a restaurant where they serves a variety and above average local dishes.

At Savaro by Felda which is strategically located at Solaris Dutamas, with a sense of innovation and creative cooking by the chef, you have a new twist to these authentic local kampong foods and a blend of Western delicacies.

It was open barely 3 months ago, the concept was to allow its customer a chance to enjoy these dishes in a pleasant, cosy and relax ambience. Some of the drinks and dishes are not to be found anywhere and is exclusive to the Savaro.

I ordered the first in-house specialty which is Savaro Soda (SS) Lime. It is a cold drink which comprise of Strawberry extract mix with Cream Soda and a tinge of Peppermint. When the drink arrive in a tall glass, part of the strawberry extract was still flowing down from the top, making it a pleasant surprise to see the extract flowing down, drop by drop to the bottom.

It was a very refreshing combination for a hot afternoon. With the stirrer, you can mix the extract and pinch the fresh peppermint leaves to extract out the mint flavour. Based on your preference, it is entirely up to you on how minty you want your drink to be.
