My Oak Bakery Cafe @Ara Damansara Review - Special Pasta and Pastry Review


There is a new cafe very near to the Oasis Ara Damansara and Citta Mall that serves nice and delicious pasta, pastry and desserts. +BestRestaurant ToEat  was invited to the post opening of My Oak Bakery and Cafe located at The Oak Suites, J-1-6, Block J, Pacific Place, Jalan PJU 1A/4, Ara Damansara, Selangor.


The cafe is located at the new Oak Suites (condo) which is directly opposite to the Kelana LRT depot. The My Oak Bakery has its own pastry kitchen setup and as well as the main kitchen which dish out the other food dishes served here.


It has a very simple and cafe setting while you can also dine alfresco at the front and back portion of the cafe. 


Our review started with some of the special best sellers dishes which is the Spicy Seafood Spaghetti (RM18.80). It is served with a combination of de shelled prawns, white fish fillet, white-squid rings, mussels and lala clams. 


The flavourful base broth of the sauce was a clam(lala) based which is prepared in-house and cooked with sprinkles of chili flakes to give you the spicy taste. It was a subdued spicy level for our dish and customers can ordered with the spicy level a notch or two to suit to your taste.


This is then followed by the Squid Ink Pasta(RM18.80); of which the black pasta which is in-house made are specially cooked to give you a full bodied taste from pasta to the sauce which is also cooked in the Squid Ink.


Be prepared for a black lips treatment when you eat this dish, as the sauce is so intense with the squid ink. Prepared al dente the pasta was of the right texture and gel up nicely with the sauce.


The third signature dish is the Matcha Chicken Burger (RM15.80). The uniqueness of this burger is the bun itself, which is a Green Tea (Matcha) flavoured bun. It is served with French fries at the sides. The bun has a subtle taste of green tea while the black sesame added a different texture to the bite. This bun is in-house made and the thick chicken patties with mayo dressing just paired up the burger to give you a special feel to this simple dish.


The next dish is the Prawn Pink Fusilli (RM17.80) - it is a lovely red pinkish dish topped with generous portion of deshelled prawns.


The sauce is a special in-house creation which marries the tomato paste with a white cream based sauce; cooked with the de-shelled prawns which resulted with a thick pinkish sauce based that exudes a savoury strong prawn taste and flavours.


The last pasta dish that we had is the Ham And Cheese Penne (RM16.80). This is a white based sauce based cooked with slices of chicken ham.


After the main, it was time to taste some of the buns and Danish croissants that are sold here. The first that we tasted was the Mixed Nuts (almond and walnuts) Danish. 


followed by the Mixed Fruits Danish - we love the combination of the mixed fruits (raspberries, black and blue berries) and each bites gives you a simple crunch from the layered danish with a combination flavours of the slight sourish feel of the different berries.


To go with my pastry, I ordered a Caramel Macchiato (RM11.90)


For desserts, we had the Almond Bavarois (RM16.00) made with premium cracked almond pastry cream, fresh berries and almond crisp cookies to make this special dessert.


and the Hanjuku Cheese Cake (RM12.00) which uses a special combination cheese and topped with Blue Berries and flame to give you a slight burnt texture to this no bake cheese cake.


My Oak Bakery and Cafe @Ara Damansara really stand out for their specialty pasta and also their pastry product especially on the desserts.

Pork Place - Puchong IOI Boulevard - Premium Porkilicious DishesReview


There are quite a number of restaurant that features pork as its key ingredients; but non so far as to a have restaurant that bred it's own pig i.e. from farm to table. +BestRestaurant ToEat was invited to this special review at The Pork Place, No 31, IOI Boulevard, Jalan Kenari 7, Bandar Puchong Jaya, 47100 Puchong, Selangor, Malaysia; where the pork that are served comes from their very own locally bred farm in Johor. 


The Pork Place @Puchong is unlike any other restaurant where you can also buy fresh pork meat too, there is a air conditioned, clean and hygienic counter that customers can walk in and buy their favourite parts of pork meat. Their brand of pork is called SanBanto which is in the business of supplying the highest quality of pork to some of the restaurants and supermarkets in Malaysia for the past 13 years.


Their pork farm has received ISO certification to ensure top quality produce and production process. Sanbanto has also successfully bred a special Black pig called "Hei Zhu" which has its origin from the heritage Berkshire breed from English county. The result is the quality of marbled leaner meat and firmer flesh that suit the taste and cooking style of Malaysian market.


We started our review with 2 salad which is the Pork Belly Salad (RM18.90); the pork belly strips are deep fried and served with fresh seasoned local and imported fresh green vegetable with a french dressings.


The Pork Belly has a crisp and crunchy feel while the sweet lychee was a nice mixture to balance off with the pork belly.


Next, we had the Pork Bacon Salad (RM21.00) which is served with fresh Romaine lettuce, cherry tomatoes, olives topped with cheddar cheese and bacon bits served with our special house made orange dressings.


Followed by the special Hei Zhu meat dishes, which is only available for weekend; starting with the Twirls of Landrace-Duroc (RM22.80) also known as (AKA) Pig in Blanket which is meaty pork wrapped in Bacon and coated with a special in-house made sauce on a bed of garden salad.


the next "Hei Zhu" special was the Loin Steaks (RM50.00); a thin and succulent steaks which is grilled and served with onion rings and potatoes with wings.


The problem with Loin Steaks is, the meat tends to be a little harder after it is grilled, but if you add in the sauce it covers some of this shortcoming.


This is then followed by the Collar Steak (RM68.00) which is a special cut and cooked with a rich bone stock and served with dauphinoise potatoes. The meat was braised until a soft and smooth texture.


The last dish from the "Hei Zhu" weekend menu is the Best Of Bellies (RM65.00) - A juicy chunks of pork belly served with mashed potatoes and mushrooms.


This dish is only revered by those that loves the really pork fats as this pork belly is literally covered with more than 90% pure juicy fats.


After that we were served some speciality dishes from the standard menu, which is the Crispy Skin Pork Knuckle; the Pork Knuckles is oven roasted to ensure a moist, tender and juicy meat on the inside and a crisp, crunchy skin on the outside.


The Pork Knuckles is served with mashed potatoes and shredded cabbage with a special concocted mustard sauce at the side. The meat of the knuckles was very tender and does not have any porky smell making it a delight to be eaten especially for me who just loves Pork Knuckles.


and the last dish for the review was the Barbecue Ribs; which is a special cut of ribs belly meat which is marinated with an in-house Barbecue sauce.


The ribs was very tender, succulent and it easily cut off without putting too much pressure while cutting. The cooking process takes many steps of coating with the barbecue sauce, until it is charred sufficiently leaving a strong aroma of the grill and the taste of flavourful sauce. It is served on a bed of mashed potatoes and salad.


If you just love everything pork or just love to eat Pork; the Pork Place @Puchong is sure the place to be whether you want to dine in or buying some of the premium pork for home cooking.

Why Malaysia GST start at 6% and not 5% or lower?

Ever wondered why the GST start with a 6% and not 5% or lower? Well, there are many versions and reasons cited by the government and economist in the many articles that was publish pre and post GST implementation. 

Here I find an interesting twist to this question. As I was going thru my first bank statement after the GST was implemented; I noticed that for each Interbank Giro Transaction; there was a charge of 10 sen per IBGT and on top of that a GST is imposed for each transaction which amount to 0.01 sen as shown in my bank statement; making a total deduction of 11 sen per transaction. Mathematically calculated the GST for this transaction; with a GST of 6%, it should have been 0.006 sen. Because of rounding up for each transaction, it round up to 1 sen.

There is an extra of 0.004 sen that the bank have collected. Although to many this amount is very insignificant but multiply it by thousand or millions of transaction that each bank collect, the amount can be very significant as highlighted below:


Question is where; who gets to keep this extra 0.004 sen. We as consumers did not get any refund from the bank while the Kastam should not be receiving this amount from the bank as it is an overpayment of GST and the bank should also not be keeping this money as it is in violation of overcharging for the GST?

So, I really would like to know from the authority where did this extra GST collected goes to. For me, this is one case that I have found out, I am not sure how many other transactions have this rounding up of GST. 

To answer the above question; let's look at the following computation. Mathematically calculated anything above 5 (will be rounded up while anything below 5 will be rounded down as highlighted at the illustration below if the GST was 4%; technically there will be no GST for this Interbank Giro transaction.


So, you know another reason why the GST is not set at 4% or lesser than 5%. If the GST was at 5% there will be no rounding up or down issue.
