Jalan Sultan Ismail Chinese Fook KL New Year 2019 Menu
Helming the FOOK KL Kitchen is Chef Sombat Kokasemkul weaving his culinary magic, by creating modern interpretations of traditional Asian. The theme for his dishes is the reinventing of classic dishes from China, Japan, Korea, and Southeast Asia.
For this coming Chinese New Year CNY2019, he has created a special Set menu which is priced at RM188++ per couple, for this festive occasion. This menu is available from 14 January to 20 February 2019. We had the opportunity to taste first hand some of the dishes. Starting off the evening with an Amuse Bouche is the Mushroom Bao.
For FOOK Yee Sang dish, there is some twist to their sauce offering which is slated towards a Thai based plum sauce and is topped crunchy ingredients with Salmon as the mains character. The Yee Sang is priced at RM88++ for medium, RM118++ for large.
This is then followed by a 3 piece appetiser set which is Mini Cone Tuna which is filled with raw tuna, while the second appetiser is the Century Egg with Cucumber Salad having a spicy undertone and the third and final dish is a Korean appetiser which is Kimchi.
For the soup, we were served with the Seafood Bisque With Deep Fried Lobster Tail. It was a nice soup which most agree has an Assam Pedas and with a hint of Assam Laksa taste-alike but with a heavy aftertaste of the seafood which we like. Couple with a lightly fried tempura lobster tail and paired with ladies fingers was just the right touch to this dish.
For the set Menu, the first dish is the Seabass With Ginger Soy Sauce, Paired With Longevity Noodles. The seabass is steamed and then bedded with the noodles that captured the taste of the natural taste of the fish and the sauce.
For this set menu, customers will get to choose either one of the poultry dish. The first choice is the Roasted Honey Duck With Kailan, Mushroom and Mandarin Orange Sauce. The duck breast meat is roasted to the right char while retaining the moist meat texture. Although the orange sauce was served, I personally prefer eating it as it is, as you can taste the natural roasted duck taste much better. For a twist, you can scoop up the sauce with the cinnamon stick which adds a slight taste into the orange sauce.
While the second choice is the Chicken Confit With Ginger Fried Rice which is reminiscent of the Chicken Rice. The chicken is steamed before being torched slightly on its' skin and might have caused the skin and meat texture to be a little drier as I normally like my steam chicken to be pulpy and moist.
For dessert, we were served with Sesame Panna Cotta With Green Tea Ice Cream.
Personally, the ambience and the environment dining at Fook KL is great as you will feel very relaxed and pampered with the soothing sound of the waterfall as the backdrop.
