At the awards ceremony, we were honoured to have the opportunity to taste and enjoy some of the crowd's favourite dishes and the Chef's selection, starting with the must-have Prawn Tom Yum Koong (RM62.00). A delectable dish filled with jumbo prawns cooked in Chef's special prawn-based tom yum broth. You can have it in either red or clear soup.
The irresistible Smellylicious Pork Belly (RM58.00) comes next. This dish has a robust flavour that is enriched with Thai Belacan and Sarawak Cincalok.
The Chunky Crab Omelette (RM108.00) came next, and it was fantastic. The eggs were deep fried till crisp on the outside and tender and firm on the inside, then filled with jumbo crab meat. I can't stop myself from having a second and third helping. The omelette is served with a chef's special seafood sauce which is complemented very well.
We had a second order for the Chunky Omelette Tentacle (RM88.00), which instead of crab flesh is filled with tender squid tentacle, which has a lovely bite texture.
Instead of the usual steam or deep-fried fish, we got the Mok Pla Salmon (Baked) (RM75.00). This Laotian-inspired dish uses salmon fish which is infused with various wonderful herbs.
If you are a fan of Lamb, you might want to order the Hang Lay Curry Lamb Shank (RM65.00). The Lamb Shank is cooked in the Northern style and served with avocado.
We had the Stir Fry Pak Lean With Crab Meat & Egg (RM40.00) for the vegetables. Pak Lean aka Melingo leaves are found in Southern Thailand and have a slight bitterness and seaweed taste.
and the showcase dish of the day was Crab Kanom Jeen (RM150.00) aka Thai Laksa. It consists of various fresh condiments and crab meat. For this dish, an advance order of 2 hours is needed.
Before we moved into the desserts, we had a palate cleanser and were served a refreshing and slightly sourish Lemon With Bunga Kantan Sorbet (RM12.00).
There is a distinctive Thai dessert menu that you won't find in many Thai restaurants. Warm desserts, gelato, sorbet, and speciality desserts are available at Kompassion. We decided to try the warm dessert selection, Mango sticky rice (RM22.00). The purple glutinous rice, roasted coconut chips, and egg yolk thread are served with this recipe.
The second dessert which was served to us is the Chef's Sweet and Sticky Cassava (RM28.00) - Chef's special touch with slightly charred candied cassava in warm butter coconut milk, topped with blue flower Sarawak sago and egg yolk thread.
Overall, tasting these crafted dishes was a delightful dining experience for us. You now know where to go to taste some authentic Thai cuisine, and you should always look for Thai Select restaurants to enjoy it.
