CHINESE NEW YEAR SET MENU 2020 @ SOFITEL KUALA LUMPUR DAMANSARA - WAN CHUN TING CHINESE RESTAURANT
Starting off, we had the Crispy Fish Skin Yee Sang RM 108 (Half Portion) or RM 216 (Whole Portion) when ordering by ala-carte. One of the speciality in the Yee Sang from Wan Chun Ting is that the sauce used here is a Strawberry based sauce, which lends a natural Strawberry sweet-sour taste to the Yee Sang in place of the popular sour plum sauce.
For me, the soup is one of the looked-up dishes when savouring these Chinese New Year set menu as it always surprised us on how this course will set the tone for the evening review of the other dishes. Here we were served Double Boiled Chicken Soup With Red Mushroom & Shrimp Wonton (RM 68 Per Person). The soup was flavourful and with the use of the red mushroom which not only flavoured the soup but also gives it a slight red tone to the soup. The shrimp wanton has a great bite texture that is stuffed with a big succulent and firm prawn.
Next, we were served the Boneless Chicken With Chinese Herbs (RM 38 Per Person). The boneless chicken meat which was cooked for a while makes it easy for diners to indulge in this dish. For me personally, I would have loved the dish to be cooked with a little more stronger herbal taste.
For the prawn dish, we had the Wok-Fried Fresh Tiger Prawns With Curry Leaf Topped With Shredded Egg (ala -carte price - RM 98 (S) RM 148 (M) RM 196 (L)). We loved this dish as the shredded eggs were cooked to a nice crispy flake with a strong curry flavour. The prawns were very fresh with a firm texture.
Then came the vegetable dish which is called the Braised Sea Cucumber, Beancurd & Bean Puff With Dried Scallop, Pacific Clam & Garden Green (RM 118 (S) RM 168 (M) RM 236 (L)). This dish is quite common during Chinese New Year but the ingredient used by each Chef and restaurant is different and at Wan Chun Ting, the Chef uses the Sea Cucumber as the highlight for this dish.
Lastly, we had the Stewed Rice & Waxed Meat Served In Casserole (RM 88 (S) RM 132 (M) RM 176 (L)). This rice dish is also one of the many must-have popular dishes during Chinese New Year. There are 2 key elements to this dish, the first is the sauce that is concocted for it while the second is the treatment of the waxed meat particularly the waxed duck meat.
For dessert, we had the Deep-Fried Chinese New Year Cake With Yam. Another simple Chinese New Year dessert which many fails to make an impression. Finding the right yam which has a soft bite texture and frying to the right crisp level which has a soft gluey texture of the Nian Gao inside will be pivotal to the success of this dessert.
Enlisted here are the 3 special Chinese New Year Set menu starting with the 2020 Prosperity Set Menu RM 2388Nett Per Table
2020 Fortune Set Menu RM 2688Nett Per Table
2020 Wealth Set Menu RM 2888Nett Per Table
