Pho Vietz Vietnamese Restaurant @ Sri Petaling Kuala Lumpur - Authentic Vietnamese Food

We, Malaysian especially those staying in the Klang Valley in particularly Kuala Lumpur are very lucky when it comes to food. We get restaurants serving a lot of different cuisines from all over the world.

+BestRestaurant ToEat was invited to taste out the new Vietnamese restaurant that serves everyday and popular dishes from Vietnam at Pho Vietz Vietnamese Restaurant located at No.2 Jalan Radin Bagus 7 Bandar Baru Sri Petaling 57000 Kuala Lumpur.

The design and decor is a rustic Vietnamese style which provides an easy dining environment without much fuss. Customers can choose either to dine indoor air-condition dining area or the al-fresco style at the side of the restaurant.

Our review started with a simple Vietnamese Prawn Salad (RM15.80). This salad comes with a special Vietnamese prawn cracker, gelatin like noodle strip, sesame seed with a lime infused dressings.

Next is a everyday food of the Vietnamese; which can be found almost everywhere in Vietnam is the Famous Vietnamese Baguette (RM10.50). The filling consist of an assortment of fresh vegetables that gives you a fresh crunch when you bite into it.

Followed by the Vietnamese Baguette With Pork Ball (RM9.90). The filling of minced pork meat together with vegetable gives you a meaty feel much like a burger but this baguette has lots of vegetable which is a healthy option as compared with the normal burgers.

We like this crispy Vietnamese Spring Roll (RM8.50). At first, we thought it was beancurd skin that was used to wrap the filling but it turn out to be the vietnamese rice roll that is used. Topped with crunchy peanut and a special sauce, we really like the taste of this spring roll.

Next on is another traditional Vietnamese dish which is the Fresh Prawn Roll (RM8.50). The fresh prawn which is wrapped in the rice paper roll with an enclosed chives gives you a fresh vegetable taste. Dipped with the accompanied sauce, the firm texture of the prawn has a delicious taste that give a nice bite.

One of the Vietnamese signature dish is the popular Vietnamese Beef Noodle Soup (RM17.90). According to Chef Kenny, the broth are made with 14 different herbs and are brewed for more than 10 hours to give it that special beefy taste. We like the fine texture of the noodle which was custom made specially for the restaurant.

After that we had the next Pho(Noodle) which is the Vietnamese Pork Ribs Noodle Soup (RM17.90). We love the pork ribs soft texture. Apparently the pork ribs are from the softer side of the ribs which is more tender. The soup base was a clear chicken broth.

This next dish has a lot of Chinese influence. It resembles the Cantonese Fried Hor Fun. It is called the Stir Fried Tiger Prawn Hor Fun (RM21.90). The prawn are fried and served as a topping to the Hor Fun while the silky Hor Fun are cooked with broccoli, mushroom and lots of onion which makes the sauce very tasty. Unlike the Cantonese version, no eggs are added to the noodle.

After that comes the Braised Pork Belly in Coconut Juice With Rice (RM26.90). This is another one of the special dish which Vietnamese eat it during the New Year. Almost every household will make a big pot of these pork belly and eaten throughout the festival. According to the Chef, the sweetness of the broth is from the coconut juice as there are no other flavouring required to cook this dish.

Followed by the Vietnamese Sour Soup and Caramel Fish Combo With Rice (RM30.90). This soup is a case of either you like it or you don't; as it has a very unique sourish taste not like the Tom Yam sour taste or the assam taste. The presentation was very nice as it comes with the fire still burning from the pot and look very interesting. One of the best sellers at the restaurant.

Our last dish for this review is the Vietnamese Rice Steamed Rice Crepe Roll With Minced Pork (RM10.50). This is much like the "Chee Cheong Fun" which is wrapped with minced pork.

So, for fans of Vietnamese Cuisine, we find most of the food very tasty and gives us an experience  once again to savour the special dishes without having to travel all the way to Vietnam.

Dim Sum @ Sri Petaling - Grand Shanghai Banquet Dim Sum Review

There are many Dim Sum restaurant in Sri Petaling area ranging from coffeeshop style to restaurant. +BestRestaurant ToEat was invited to savour the Shanghainese version of Dim Sum at Grand Shanghai Banquet located at 45, Jalan Radin Tengah, Bandar Baru Sri Petaling, Kuala Lumpur.

The Grand Shanghai Banquet has a very Chinese theme; from the front entrance to the table setting, up to wall decor and lighting, it exudes the charm of Old Shanghai.

Belting out old Chinese songs of yesteryears it gives you the experience of the charms and ambiance of old China dining like those of the "Shanghai Bund".

For this review; the presentation will be on my favourite taste of the Dim Sum ranking rather than on a chronologically basis.

My personal No 1 favorite is the Claypot Porridge With Shang Har Prawn (RM26.80). We like the texture and the flavours of the silky smooth porridge. Coupled with the prawns roe which is normally associated with this type of prawns and the fresh succulent bouncy texture, this one has my thumbs up. It was so good that we ordered a second helping of this porridge.

As pork knuckle is one of my favorite dish, I just have to try out this Pork Knuckle Shanghai Style (RM9.80). This pork knuckle is braised with some dried chillies, which lend a spicy taste to this dish. The meat was cooked to the right texture ie. not too overly hard (very hard to chew) or too soft (no texture, meat falls off the bone). Just the way I like it which needs a little pulling and bouncy texture.

The next one is the Grand Shanghai Shrimp Dumpling (RM8.00). As expected the prawns is juicy and succulent with a bouncy texture wrap in a thin layer of special skin.

followed by the Grand Shanghai Special Baked Bun With BBQ Pork (RM12.80) - I like the crunchy crust of this bun, but find the BBQ Char Siew filling a little on a sweeter note, perhaps for those that loves the sweeter taste will really find this a delight.

After that it is the Baked BBQ Pork Puff (RM7.00). Liked the crust, which has a soft crusty feel but the same BBQ Pork filling is on a sweeter note.

You can't miss out the Shanghai most popular Dim Sum dish which is the Xiao Long Pao, Here at Grand Shanghai Banquet it is called the Steamed Pastry with Grand Shanghai Style in Superior Soup (RM9.00). We like the superior soup which has a slight vinegar infused taste; so you do not need to topped up any of these while you enjoy this piping hot Xiao Long Pao.

Dinosaur Roll is a very unique Dim Sum as it is a combination of 2 different style. Firstly using a "Wai Fa Che", a type of eatable wrap much like the vietnamese rice wrap paper; is wrapped with finely shredded radish and fried to a crisp brown (like a fried popiah). After frying, it is then wrap with the Cheong Fun and set to steam and finally topped it with premium soya sauce and pork meat floss. We love the different texture to each bite as you can taste the crunch and yet the soft texture of the Cheong Fun.

We are normally accustomed to the Steam Custard Bun (RM7.50) which is also served here but Grand Shanghai also have a version that is called Fried Custard Quicksand Bun Shanghai Style (RM8.50). This Fried version has a distinctive feel compared with the steam as the dough; has a special crisp feel when bitten into it. At Grand Shanghai, the filling is a little more of a watery based; so once you bite into it, the juicy filling will flow out. I still prefer the steam version as it is smoother and have a softer texture.

Next is the Steamed Fish Maw Mai with Spicy Sauce (RM7.50)

After which is the Freshly Baked Egg Tarts (RM7.00)

Stir Fried Radish Cake With Bean Sprout (RM7.50). Generous amount of eggs and preserved vegetables was used to fried up this dish.

For desserts, we had 2 of them; the first of which is the Longan With Sea Coconut (RM6.00).

and the final one is the special Aloe Vera With Grass Jelly (RM7.00); This dessert is served chilled and comes with a special crystal like ball which is actually Yakult ball; and once bitten it will explode and the juice has a slight sourish Yakult taste. This dessert is an acquired taste and for me, I like it.

MINAMOTONOYA CAFÉ Sri Petaling Glass City Café Western Fusion Food Review By Best Restaurant

There is a little new cafe in Sri Petaling that was opened recently. Best Restaurant To Eat was invited for a food review which is MINAMOTONOYA CAFÉ located at C3, Jalan Radin Anum 1, Glass City, Bandar Sri Petaling Kuala Lumpur (new address No. 37-1 Jalan Radin Anum Satu Bandar Baru Sri Petaling 57000 Kuala Lumpur).

MINAMOTONOYA CAFÉ has a Japanese inspired theme that serves Western Japanese fusion food. The décor is one which is loaded with cute cartoon character.

It has a minimalist and simple decor setting which makes it a little cozy hang-out place to chill out with friends. Moreover its' pricing of the food are affordable especially its’ set lunches.

The food review started out with the BACON EGG SANDWICHES. The in-house made bacon was perfectly paired to the deep fried egg and the in-house made ciabatta bread.

With a generous spread of mayonnaise and topped with fresh green lettuce, it not only looks nice but tasted equally delicious.

The next dish was the WAFU SHIMEJI MUSHROOM AGLIO OLIO, it is a lightly onion flavoured aglio olio with a generous sprinkle of bonito flakes which was still curling when served to us.

The shimeji mushroom emits a special fragrant which blended well with the sauce and the flakes together with the crunch of the fresh cherry tomatoes.

Next, we had the SPAGHETTI TERIYAKI, the chicken thigh were marinated and fried with the teriyaki sauce.

The taste was very balance with the delicious tasting chicken meat and the mushroom enhanced sauce.

The final main dish we tried was the SPAGHETTI SERVED WITH FRIED CHEESE PORK CHOP.

The pork chop were thinly sliced, roll up and batter up with bread crumb. Fried to a golden crisp and spread with a layer of cheese. Simply delicious and goes well with the spaghetti.

Next, is the dessert which we had two, the first of which is the TOFU CHEESE CAKE, a no bake cheese cake blended with white tofu and served on top of a layer of bread crumb.

This dessert goes well with a cup of the Mocha Latte.

Our final dessert was the MIZU SHINGEN MOCHI, a super cute transparent grass jelly mochi that was served with soya bean paste and a topping of brown sugar syrup.

So, the next time you are around the Sri Petaling area, head over to MINAMOTONOYA CAFÉ to try out the fusion western food with a twist of Japanese flavours.
