Hungry Bacon is located at No 33, Jalan SS 21/56B, Damansara Utama, 47400 Petaling Jaya, Selangor and serves a multitude of non-halal pork dishes. Incidentally, the name Hungry Bacon is the name of Chef Timothy's pet dog.

We started with the Appetiser & Snack menu. First on the table was the Ultimate Nachos (RM40.00). Freshly baked corn tortilla chips drizzled with hot cheese sauce served with 5 different dipping sauces which are Bacon Chilli Con Carne, Sour Cream, Guacamole, Pico de Gallo, Jalapenos & Bacon bits.

Next is the Chicharron (RM20.00) which is one of the popular snacks in the Philippines. In layman's terms, it is fried pig skin. The difference is in the preparation of the delicacies, the pigskin is first dry-cured for 48 hours and deep-fried until distinct crispiness. It is served with pesto sauce. Please note it takes about 15 minutes of preparation time for this dish. Very addictive after each bite especially in-between sips of cold beer.

After that, is one of my fancy snacks, which is Bacon Wrapped In Chicken Lollipop (RM24.00). This is one of the other dishes that need some time to cook, which is about 20 minutes. A couple of bacon are wrapped into the chicken drumettes and then deep-fried to a nice crunch and serve with mayonnaise and barbeque sauce.

For our salad, we had the Bacon Wrapped Pumpkin Salad (RM30.00)- Chock full of delicious flavours which include fried bacon, spinach, basil oil, lemon dressing, balsamic pearls, sun-dried tomatoes, rockets, croutons, pine nuts, chickpeas and the star of the dish pumpkin. You can opt for a meat-free version which is without the bacon at RM25.00.

The Chef reckons we taste 2 of his popular mains dishes, the first of which is their best seller, Pork Shoulder Chop (RM 35.00). The pork shoulder (about 250 grams) has to be brined for 48 hours. It is then pan-fried resulting in deliciously succulent and tender meat. This dish is served with truffle mash, broccoli, romesco, herb butter and gravy. Not many Chefs know how to serve pork shoulder chop but the Chef has a course of action that brings the best of this cut of meat.

Next, we had the BBQ ribs (RM 65.00). The pork spare rib is slow-cooked in a secret broth and then roasted to a nice char. This dish is served with a choice of sauce which are Garlic BBQ, Sweet Guinness, BBQ or Black Pepper.

Our orders were served with BBQ sauce and were accompanied by fries, coleslaw and cornbread. The spare ribs meat was succulent and flavourful while the texture was fork tender. Goes with a glass of cold beer.

By now, our stomach was almost to the limit from all the porklicious dishes that has been served to us. The Chef has proposed we try out his partner's favourite dish which is the Truffle Bacon Fried Rice (RM31.00). The Fried rice is topped with katsuobushi, rice puffs and tobiko.

It was truly amazing as when the dish reached the table, the truffle aroma from the fried rice was so pleasant and flavourful. With each mouthful, we were lost for words to describe all the flavours and texture of the rice with a nice Wok Hei flavour that is perfectly blended into each grain of rice. We finished up to the last grain of rice. He really left the best for the last.

For dessert, we had the Chocolate Lava Cake (RM18.00). Many places fail in these desserts as when you cut it thru, the chocolate lava should be free-flowing.

Here you get that exact experience of the free-flowing chocolate lava and the rich taste of the dark chocolate was just the right and it blended well with the cold Forty Lick Vanilla Ice Cream which makes a great ending to our dinner at Hungry Bacon.
