Nam Heong Ipoh Subang Jaya Da Men Mall USJ - Famous Ipoh Street Food In Cafe Setting

Subang Food Nam Heong Ipoh Da Men Mall

Mention Ipoh, Nam Heong Old Town will be the first foodie spot that you want to go to. You will not want to miss out the freshly brewed famous Ipoh White Coffee that is synonymous to this shop which is located at the corner shop in Ipoh Old Town. Nowadays folks in Kuala Lumpur; need not travel more than 2 hours to enjoy this strong brewed aroma Ipoh White Coffee as Nam Heong Ipoh Old Town have set up a new modern concept restaurant cafe at LG 21 - 22, Da Men Mall Persiaran Kewajipan, USJ 1, 47500 Subang Jaya, Selangor.

The outlet is decorated to reminisce the 1950 era where gramophones were the only source of music that you could play during that era. Of course one of the things you probably missed out dining here is the heat, crampy and noisy bustle of the Ipoh Old Town shop but in place a nice and comfortable dining at this outlet.

There are many specialties that are offered at Nam Heong Ipoh like the aroma filled original Ipoh White Coffee and its Nam Heong Chicken Hor Fun.

Nam Heong Ipoh will continue on its quest to bring more famous street food in Ipoh to its customers and we got to try out these few new dishes starting with the Nam Heong Ipoh Nasi Lemak (RM12.90). One of the main difference this version compared to those that we have eaten at other places; is the rice which is Pandan flavored. The second is that; this Nasi Lemak is served with pieces of Luncheon meat (Chinese Style) accompanied with the spicy cockles (kerang) sambal which we really like.

Next, is the Ipoh Nasi Ganja (RM15.90). As many would have known, this dish is highly sought after in Ipoh. The version here is slightly different from the shop that sells this in Ipoh but we love the Aromatic Indian Fried Chicken which was fried to a nice crisp and also the special Pandan rice which was drenched with curry sauce. This rice dish is served with one-half of the Salted Eggs and Sambal on the sides.

If one piece of chicken is not enough for you or you just plainly loves crispy fried chicken; you can also order ala-carte this Aromatic Indian Fried Chicken (RM5.90).

After that, we had the Szechuan Spicy Noodle (RM8.90). The noodles are actually Pan Mee and filled with a spicy sourish Szechuan broth. For those that like to have a more sourish taste, a Calamansi is served to add a tinge of more sour taste to this noodle.

You can also order this Sze Chuan Spicy Soup (RM5.90) ala-carte.

Note: The above four dishes are only served for lunch between 12 to 5pm.

For dinner, there are 2 set dishes which the first is the Nam Heong Claypot Chicken Rice (RM24.90) Set for 2 pax. A specially designed ceramic clay pot is used to cook this Claypot Chicken Rice which can withstand a high temperature and can cook the rice in less than 10 minutes.

Served with pieces of wax meat Chinese Sausage, ginger marinated chicken and topped with freshly cut scallion. This Nam Heong Claypot Chicken Rice set is served with Bean Sprout which hails from Ipoh - Everyday shipment of these bean sprout are sent from Ipoh to KL to ensure that we get to taste this bouncy Ipoh bean sprout. Besides that, there is a Fish paste soup that comes with this rice set.

The last dish is the Nam Heong Claypot Bak Kut Teh (RM32.90) - Set For 2. I have not personally tasted Bak Kut Teh from Ipoh, but the first taste of the broth clearly distinguish this version as compared to the Klang and also the KL version. I personally find the broth to be a little on the sweeter note, unlike the Klang version which has a thicker and stronger broth while the KL counterpart has a more herbal taste. Probably, the people of Ipoh prefer this sweeter version, though. This set comes with a plate of Ipoh Bean Sprout and 2 pieces of braised eggs, twisted dough sticks and 2 bowls of rice.

For desserts, we were served one of the famous Ipoh desserts i.e.the Caramel Egg Custard

followed by the Tau Foo Fa with Sugary Ginger infused syrup.

the Ipoh Ais Batu Campur (ABC).

and not to be missed is the Nam Heong Ipoh Egg Tarts. These eggs tarts are freshly baked on a 2-hour cycle at the front of the outlet. These are very popular and are snapped off as quickly as it comes out of the oven.

If you yearn for some Ipoh street food, you need not have to travel such a long distance as you can savour these Ipoh favourite at Nam Heong Ipoh outlet at Damen Mall USJ Subang Jaya.

BBQ Thai - Thai Street Food Restaurant - Old Klang Road - New Thai Dish Review

I am sure, that many folks who stayed around Old Klang Road, will definitely know or come across the BBQ Thai Street Food Restaurant located at 17, Lorong Jugra, Off Batu 3 1/4 Jalan Klang Lama 58000 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia which has been around for more than 3 years serving delicious Thai dishes.

+BestRestaurant ToEat  was invited to try out some of the specialities and latest dishes that are offered at the BBQ Thai Restaurant.

If you have visited this restaurant, you would probably know, that the BBQ Thai Restaurant has a unique theme where there are 9 specially built air condition theme dining rooms for you to enjoy your meals in.

On a cool night, you might want to dine at the open area on the centre court for a more relaxing and natural dining experience.

To start off our dinner review, we were served the traditional Papaya Salad (RM15.00) which has a crunchy feel from the raw papaya and a slight sourish taste with a topping of roasted peanuts; indeed a refreshing start for our review.

For the main dishes, we started with a special Steam Squid In Thai Lemon Sauce (RM38.00). Normally, the steam fish would be a standard option for the preparation style of this dish; but we were recommended to try out the White Squid which is one of my favourite seafood too. We love the taste of the broth and the firm bouncy texture of the white squid. Served on top of a Charcoal burner, which leaves the broth piping hot; was wonderfully done with the right balance of spiciness and sourish taste.

Next, we had a dish that you will normally find from the streets of Thailand, which is the Thai Fried Kang Kung (RM15.00). The Kang Kung is first coated with a special batter that will leave a very crispy texture after the deep frying. This dish is served with a special Thai Dip sauce.

For me; you can't complete a Thai meal without ordering the Thai Tom Yam soup. Ours was the Tom Yam With Fresh Water Prawns (market price) which also comes with other seafood like the white squid, mussels, and oyster mushroom. The version that is served here has a slight milky base with a distinctive aroma and flavours of lemongrass. The spicy level was just right for us too.

Next, we also had the opportunity to try out some of the new dishes which the first is the Thai Style Fried Chicken With 3 Sauce (RM35.00).

Followed by another soup dish; this time, it is the Thai Style Pork Ribs Spicy Sour Soup (RM48.00). The taste of this soup is quite similar to the Mamak Mutton Soup which is spice and herbs based but the main ingredient here is the pork ribs with a slight sourish taste.

and the last main dish from the new menu is the Thai Style Lemon Fried Fish (Seasonal Price). We like this dish as the fish was perfectly fried to a deep crisp and topped with a special lemon sauce which has a tangy taste that is wrapped thoroughly around the fish meat.

As the name of the Restaurant goes by, we definitely must try out the Thai BBQ dishes. To ensure we get to taste a little of everything, we had the Thai BBQ Platter (RM58.00); which comprises of the Thai BBQ Pork Neck - my personal favourite one of the better cut for BBQ, Thai BBQ Squid, Thai BBQ Chicken Wings and Thai BBQ Prawns.

Next, we had a special plate of Thai BBQ Pork Spare Ribs. The Ribs are marinated and BBQ over charcoal to get it the right charred taste; with a fork tender meat texture and topped with a special BBQ sauce.

For Cockles aficionados, you can order the Thai BBQ Kerang (RM15.00) which is also served with the Thai special sauce, unlike the Malaysian style which we will normally eat with sambal belacan.

To wrap up the BBQ dishes, we had the Thai BBQ Butter Crab (seasonal price).

There is a number of dessert offering from the restaurant. For those of you who would like to taste some traditional desserts which the Thai eats can order the Desserts Platter (RM38.00) which has the cute looking Loob Choob which essentially is miniature vegetables and fruits with mung beans filling, The platter also comes with Foi Thong "golden threads" desserts of strings of egg yolk boiled in sugar syrup. The third dessert is the Amara /Khanom Man which is Cassava Cake With Coconut and the last one is the Thai Rice Cake With Special Sauce. You can also order these desserts individually.

The other dessert which is more commonly ordered from Thai Restaurant is the Thai Style Water Chestnut (RM7.00)

and the Thai Style Cendol (RM7.00). A nice little treat; after all the spicy and hearty dishes to cool down our body.

All in, as the Chef which are mainly Thai, does cook out a remarkable spread which we truly enjoyed. We also had the opportunity to savour some of their specialities dishes and the new dishes that are offered by BBQ Thai - Thai Street Food Restaurant - Old Klang Road. By the way, we got to know that the restaurant is now open for lunch too. So, you can head over to get your favourite Tom Yam and other delicious Thai dishes at the restaurant.

Ipoh Town Outskirt Perak Part 2 Perak North Road Trip Food Trail By Best Restaurant To Eat

Ipoh Food Trail Malaysian Food Blog

There are many food to eat in Ipoh, Perak. This part 2 is a compilation of the outer Ipoh Perak Food Trail which is the villages, where these places have equally famous food especially to the local folks. Click here to go to our Part 1 Ipoh Road Trip. With that Best Restaurant To Eat continues the Ipoh Perak Road Trip Food Trail by first visiting the Pasir Pinji Village. Over here, you practically goes into the home i.e some are pre war kampung houses.

The first station is in Jalan Pasir Pinji 5; famed for it's Chee Cheong Fun, I was here back about 20 years ago, of course during that time it was even more kampung but now the house has been renovated and one has to take a queue number to enjoy this simple dish. You have to go there around 1pm when they opened.

There are 3 sauce flavours for this Chee Cheong Fun, the first is the soya sauce with shallot oil - simple and taste most natural.

while the second is with the sweet sauce.

and the third one is the mixture of sweet sauce plus chillies sauce (you can order your level of spiciness here. One of the thing about the Chee Cheong Fun here is the texture and quality - the Chee Cheong Fun is embedded by fried dried shrimp which you don't get much these days.

Next, we went to the Pasir Pinji Rojak. There were already a crowd when we reached there; as usual we dutifully taken our number and sit to wait. The wait was more than 45 minutes before we were served.

Here, there is no rush, the owner painstaking do one plate per round, so if one guy comes and order 5 pack, he will do it individually, this is to ensure the consistency and quality which was evident in our plate of these rojak, Unlike the vendors in KL, where they will do up as many as packs as possible in one round.

Taste wise, it was very good, the prawn paste was just the right flavour with a strong tinge of grounded belacan aroma.

After that, we were recommended to try out the Ice Jelly by the main street of Pasir Pinji, This place is just opposite the Pasir Pinji market.

There are actually 2 store here, we realise this after we ordered, nevertheless we tried both shop and the verdict was similar, one had a harder jelly compares with the other but it was a real thirst quencher for us on that hot day. Make sure you see that shop which is selling from the cart.

Next, we proceeded to try out another famed food here which is the Hong Kee Ma Chee and the peanut dessert (Fa Sang Wu). Taste wise the Fa Sang Wu was ok, but for the price of RM3 for a super small bowl, it was really expensive even to KL standard. My favourite Fa Sang Wu in a pasar malam in KL is 3 times more but at just only RM2.20.

But what disappoint me more is the Ma Chee, The serving was about 10 pieces or less and cost RM3.00 with very little peanuts and you can still taste the glutinous rice. Sorry, I did not take any photo of the both the dish as I was really pissed off and surprised by the so little serving.

Pasir Pinji is also famed for its Yong Tau Foo, and with that our next stop was the Big Tree. When we arrived the place was literally pack and people were queuing to scoop up whatever fried stuff that was put on the serving table.

This is another great disappointment as the stuff food was very oily, tasteless and costly. A check later showed that all the customer there are really tourist from out of town, This is another ripped off.

After the 2 last disappointment, we headed to Gunung Rapat for the famed Heong Phean. The first shop that we went; was closed, so we headed to another one which is 2 streets away.

Upon entering the villages house, we could see a man working on the specially design stove, where we witness first hand the making of the Heong Phean. We could see there are a lot of coconut shell in the compound and a check later reveal that it is used to fire up the stove.

Imagine, your biscuit is cooked with these coconut shell. It was rather eye opening and this special coconut infused flavours are ingrained into each and every biscuit. The result; you can really taste the smokey coconut taste with every bite of this biscuit compared to the normal one.

After that, we made our way for dinner at another village which is in Bercham, here we encountered a very rude owner that does not have a courtesy to appreciate his client, he is the type which is money minded i.e serving big table ie. those with a big group first. This is the first time we encountered such arrogant owner, I suppose his business is so good that he can get away with it.

This place called Restoran Rasa Lain, which was recommended by one of our friend to try out is the Tong Fun Crab. This dish is RM100.00

followed by the Cheese Prawns (RM60.00).

and the Steamed Lala (RM25.00)

and the Steamed Fish Ball (RM13,00). We are definitely not going to come here again with this kind of service.

Our conclusion is that Ipoh is surely catching up on prices with the KL counterpart, the difference is getting narrower over the years. Moreover since the influx of tourist from other states, businesses here has grown tremendously and it is evident wherever we go, there are 2 things that is common that we come across which is a traffic jam (never before I have experienced the jam in Ipoh – at some time it was easily worse than KL especially in the town centre) and a queue (almost all the outlet that we went) for food; some cumulating to a wait of more than 45 to 60 minutes for your food to be served. But what is worse is the arrogant level of some of these outlet operators which has pale in comparison with those that I have experienced some years back.

We used to enjoy the tranquillity of Ipoh, in that it used to be a nice place; to have some really nice food and leisure time to enjoy the scenery of this tin mining town, but reality kick in and we spent almost the entire time waiting for our food to be served instead; so there were literally no leisure time at all for our planned sightseeing.
