Other must-have condiments such as the Rasam and Thairu are also served. To make it easy for customers, OBL offers a number of set menu dishes for lunch from 12pm-3pm Monday to Friday. The first of which is the Fried Chicken set (RM15.90) The set is a complete offering with a combination of 3 vegetable side dishes, fried dried chillies and papadam which coincidentally is also the Vegetarian Set.

OBL Banana Leaf Rice Curry Fish Head

These set dishes can also be ordered ala-carte and there are a number of the other dishes for you to indulge in; we tried the Ikan Tenggiri Fish Head Curry (RM50.00 for 800g to 1kg) while the smaller size between 400 to 500gm is RM35.00 as our first ala-carte order. The curry which was infused with spices was flavourful and goes well with the steaming white rice that was served to us.

while our second order is the Chicken Kurma (RM7.50).

and our final ala-carte dish is the Lollipop Chicken (RM12.90 for 4 pieces); which is quite similar to a boxing chicken but at OBL; it uses the chicken drumette but with the Indian spices marination. It is deep fried to a nice crunch and was great to be paired with the curried rice.

Besides serving the Banana Leaf Rice, OBL also serves Thosai and Porri. We tried the Roti Tissue (RM3.80) which was made into a wafer-thin crunchy texture which is quite addictive. While eating this, you will be like a monster crunching the Thosai with the sound of the crunch at every bite.

For Thosai fans, you can taste out the Plain Thosai (RM2.80) which also have a nice crispy crunch.

The first dish after our Yee Sang is the Herbal Chicken Broth In the Whole Coconut. The soup is a double-boiled herbal soup which has nutritious ingredient in a light broth which was enhanced by the coconut juice, herbs, black chicken and sun-dried scallop.

It is customary to serve prawns as one of the dishes as the Cantonese sound of Prawn is happiness- with that, we were served the Tiger Prawns In Vietnamese Sauce which has a savoury with a slight hint of sourish sauce that was concocted with a combination of tangerine and lemongrass.  It was served with a unique decor of a Blue Dragon.

For the fish dish, we were served with the Wok Fried Pearl Grouper With Spicy Sauce. With every bite, you can taste the freshness of the fish fillets coated with the flavourful spicy chilli paste. It is something that is not conventional as the most restaurant would served fish as a steam dish as Grouper is best for steaming, but with this twist, it calls for a Malaysian twist (a spicy taste) to this dish. Most agree that it was quite delicious too.

Rounding up the main dishes was the Broccoli With Wrapped Seafood In Beancurd Skin. An impressive dish indeed, the chef has incorporated a variety of favourite shellfish into the dish. Sun-dried oysters, Mexican Clams, Pacific Clams, bamboo piths and shiitake mushroom are wrapped in bean curd drizzle with black moss sauce.

The rice dish that the Chef has chosen to serve us is the  Golden Pumpkin Rice. For those that love the taste of pumpkin will find this rice dish very palatable to them. In it, there are smoked chicken and dried shrimp.

To end our dinner, we had Nian Gao and Glutinous Rice Mango Balls. The deep-fried Nian Gao was a pleasant surprise as it has just the right sweetness level which is paired with the Coconut Coated Glutinous Rice Mango Balls which was light and delightful to eat with the fruity mango flavour.

The Chilled Crystal Pear With Aloe Vera, Dried Longan, Red Dates in rock sugar syrup was soothing for the throat after a heavy meal, helping us to cool off the many savoury dishes that was served to us.

CHINESE NEW YEAR EVE - REUNION BUFFET DINNER - 4TH FEB 2019

Apart from the Festive Set Menus, diners can have their opulent Reunion Dinner Buffet Special at The Eatery on the night of 4th Feb 2019. A feast of fresh seafood such as live oyster, tiger prawns, mussel, scallop, and flower crabs on ice, Singapore-style or Black Pepper Crabs, Peking Duck and many more awaits diners at RM 148nett per person. Children from 4-11 years old enjoy 50% discount for the buffet.
