Luckin Kopi @ Jalan Panggung Kuala Lumpur Chinatown Petaling Street

Housed in a heritage building which is more than 150 years old, it was perfectly refurbished to the charm of its hey-day to gives you the feel of old-time Kopitiam. One of the main objectives of Luckin Kopi is to enliven the nostalgic emotion with its offering of comfort food that was served during that era, which will mesmerise you to the good old carefree days.

Luckin Kopi Petaling Street Decor

If you are above 50 years old or more and was living in this part of Kuala Lumpur Chinatown areas during the '50s and '60s, the memories of childhood will be refreshed instantly; the minute you walk into the Kopitiam. Looking on to the architecture of the shop and the decor will transform you into that era. What was missing for me; thou was the sound of the '50s.
Luckin Kopi Logo
The named Luckin Kopi was chosen as it inspired to bring luck and comfort to their dining guests which sounds like Luck In your pocket - you know what I meant. Under the cashier desk, there is a couple of Oranda fish which is thought to symbolise good luck and fortune; which set the decoration theme of this Kopitiam. If you look at the logo, The Oranda fish is also used as the logo of the Luckin Kopi.

ROCK CAFE - Medan Sunway, Jalan PJS 11/20, Bandar Sunway Something For Everyone

Rock Cafe Sunway at Medan Rock Cafe, Jalan PJS 11/20, Bandar Sunway, 46150 Subang Jaya, Selangor has been around for more than a decade now. As it is a very popular hotspot for food and a place to gather with friends and families; anytime 24 hours 365 days a year i.e. the food court that never closes. Strategically located in Sunway, there are many patrons coming to Rock Cafe Sunway which hails from Subang and Petaling Jaya.

The first impression is that; the Rock Cafe Sunway boasts a few firsts for this segment namely this is one of the only food courts where you can taste out not only local favorite food like Fried Rice, Chap Fan (Mixed Rice) but also International cuisines like the Middle Eastern Food, Indonesian Food, Japanese, Chinese (from China), Italian and other Western delights and more from all the stores around the cafe.

With more than 500 dishes or more to choose from; there is definitely something for everyone at Rock Cafe Sunway.

Secondly; the Rock Cafe Sunway serves Pork Free and Non Halal dishes and has separate utensils and washing areas for the different utensils.

Thirdly; as told by the manager; it is one of the first food courts in Klang Valley to offer a LIVE screening of football matches together with Big Match Of The Week competition where prizes such as original football jersey and original football are given to the correct scores of the match.

Do check out their Rock Cafe Sunway facebook page for the latest Big Match Of The Week and promotion. As told the cafe are usually fully booked for these matches; do make a booking beforehand for a table.

For our food exploration of the Rock Cafe Sunway; we ordered a number of crowd favourite dishes that are served at Rock Cafe Sunway; the first being the 45 Minutes Uncle Huat Fried Rice. A standard peak hour wait time for this delicacy is about 45 minutes.

Our order is for the Special Fried Rice which is laden with Prawns and Char Siew (RM9.50). True to its' popularity; the Fried Rice has a nice Wok Hei that is ingrained in each of the rice bulbs.

Our next order is a great starter dish or for some; it is a great accompaniment to a nice icy cold beer which is the Fried mushroom; According to the manager; the owner of this shop Mushroom King is the original creator of this popular dish with a history of more than 20 years.

You can order either the dint mushroom that is available like the shitake, enoki or oyster mushroom that comes with a special inhouse made sauce for your dips.

Next; from the Indonesia; we have the unique Nasi Bakar. The rice is first fried and wrapped in the banana leaf and grilled to a nice fragrant. The minute you open up the rice wrapping, you can smell the flavourful rice which has a tad of spiciness in it.

The set offering of this Nasi Bakar comes with a Grilled Spicy Chicken which has a char spicy flavour and also fried tempe as a side.

Moving along we were attracted to an outlet which sells Grill Seafood; it offers fresh seafood which is delivered daily from Pulau Ketam. Customers can either order the set offering which starts with RM10.00 or orders the Fresh seafood ala-carte which is charged with by the weight of the chosen seafood.

A check with the order takers is that their most popular style is the Portuguese Grilled; so our orders were for the Grilled String Ray Portuguese Style. We like the flavour of the sauce that was used but it was a little spicier for some of us. We probably can order the spicy level a tad down the scale.

This Grill Food stalls also double up to serve the Rojak Buah Penang which we order it to complement our grilled fish dishes.

After that we saw something interesting when we pass by the Roti Canai stores which serve Roti Canai Burger and Roti Canai Pizza; It must be a first for us, so naturally, we like to taste out what it is like to have a Roti Canai Burger.

When it arrives at the table, we could see the filling is made up of a Ham which is covers with Eggs and sandwich between 2 pieces of Roti Canai serves with Dhall.

A few stalls away from the Roti Canai stall, we reach the Middle Eastern Stall specializing in Arabic Food; where you can order some of the popular Middle Eastern treats from it.

We saw a man grilling some Chicken Mandy and you can smell the nice aroma of the freshly charcoal grill chicken.

You can order this grilled chicken that can be accompanied by the Nasi Briyani or the special wafer thin Pita Bread. Love the taste of this dish. We were told that this stall is very popular and you can feast on these Middle Eastern dish until 2am each day.

Another stall that caught our eyes is the Tandoori stall which has its' recipe from Pakistan (home to the fame Tandoor food). This stall serves a number of dishes such as Naan and Tandoori Chicken.

We made an order for a Double Cheese Naan

and a quarter Chicken Tandoori; Taste wise was good and it was grilled to the right balance will a slight char that enhances the flavour of the grilled chicken. You can taste the flavours of the spices ingrained into the chicken meat.

Situated at a hidden corner is the Chong Qing noodles. Fans of the Spicy Noodles from China will find this spicy noodles a delight. Hail from the district of Chong Qing which is famed for their spicy food in China.

The noodles can be ordered with different cooking styles and there are other China-based dishes like the dumplings and snack dishes for you to taste.

Moving back to taste out some local dishes that are served at Rock Cafe Sunway is the Melaka Nyonya Nasi Lemak. Nasi Lemak is usually served with sambal, but for this stall; if you order your Nasi Lemak with fried chicken you will be served with an Ayam Lemak Curry. Alternatively; you can also order your set with Ayam Lemak Curry which we did. Personally for me; I find the curry to be a little too sweet but for my eating partner they seem to enjoy it.

Opposite the Nasi Lemak stall; is a stall that serves Japanese delicacies with the Japanese Curry as its top seller. We ordered the Katsu Curry rice set which comes with a piece of Fried Chicken Fillet.

or you can try out the Teriyaki Chicken Don from Japanese Corner stall.

For the western food; we ordered a Grilled Lamb Chop that is served with the Mushroom sauce. For our order; the lamb chop was slightly overdone and has a tougher texture. This stall offers an elaborate choice of other western delights that you can choose from.

Our final dish is another Indonesian delight aptly named Indo Deli; It serves Indomie which you can top up with other dishes such as the Spicy Fried Chicken.

There is a craze currently for these Indomie based dishes around KL and Subang; apparently, this Indomie based stall has been around quite some time already. You may want to taste out some of the offerings from this stall.

Before ending our meals, we ordered the Teh Tarik. We used 5 types of tea leaves to make our Teh Tarik; that ensures that you get the right taste, colour, aroma and texture of a real Teh Tarik quips the outlet manager.

For fans of Somersby; you can order the special promotion where you pay RM46.00 for a bucket of 4 icy cold Somersby Apple Cider or if you are a fan of Carlsberg, there is an ongoing promotion of RM54.00 for 3 bottles of Carlsberg Smooth.

One more feature about Rock Cafe Sunway; I believe that; this is the only food court in Malaysia that takes your feedback and complaint seriously. If you have any issue, you can contact them accordingly; So the next time; you have any issue while dining at Rock Cafe Sunway; you can try it out and see whether the response is quick.
