Kuala Kubu Baru Food: Teo Kee | Part 2 Rawang Kuala Kubu Bharu Food Trip

Continuing from our Rawang trip, our next stop was to the quiet town of Kuala Kubu Baru to continue our food hunt.

Our first stop is for lunch at the Kedai Makanan Teo Kee No. 8, Jalan Merdeka, Kampung Tun Abdul Razak, 44000, Kuala Kubu Bahru, Selangor, 44000, Malaysia. This is an open food court style with lots of parking area but having lunch here can a little hot especially the late morning.

Our first dish is the Signatures Fish Tofu. The fish fillet was very thick and the sauce that is cooked in it was superb. Needless to say, we can virtually finish a bowl of rice with just this dish.

For our second dish, it is the Steamed Pork With Salted Fish is one of my favourite styles when it comes to steaming pork. Here this dish is served with a few thinly slices of white Tofu.

Next, we had the Braised Pork Belly Mui Choy but too bad the pork belly has been sold out for the day. But nevertheless, we still made an order just the Mui Choy which we didn't regret as the taste was really good and as usual the perfect companion for the white rice. Tasting the gravy makes us wonder that the pork belly would be really good. Probably, we will try it on our next visit.

And our last dish is the brinjal with prawns. This dish reminds me of how my grand mother used to cook it and we love the soft texture of the Brinjal which was very flavorful.

All in with drinks and rice our lunch which came with four delicious dishes only cost us RM42.00. What a steal at the prices that we pay for the same food in KL. Bear in mind, if you plan to eat here you have to be here earlier as the seats are limited and sold off pretty quickly especially on a weekend.

After our lunch, we decided to take a short drive to the Sungai Selangor Dam and the Fish Sanctuary for some little explorations and will continue our food trail after that.

Kennys Food Cart @ Aman Suria Petaling Jaya Selangor

It's been quite some I have not patronised Kennys Food Cart stall located in the alley of Jalan SS2/4a, Taman Bahagia. 3 months ago, I bought my family to taste out the popular Teng Chai Chuk (porridge), and they really like this special porridge. We were told by Kenny that they will be relocating to a place in a month or two.

As my wife was an avid fan, we got news that they have moved to Aman Suria. They retain the food cart concept in this restaurant setup to provides its customer with a more comfortable atmosphere for dining in as compared to the stalls days where it is determined by nature.

Kennys Food Cart Address
K-G-11 Jalan PJU 1/43 Aman Suria
Petaling Jaya, Malaysia

Most of the food serve here are the same when they were at Taman Bahagia stall except for some adds on rice dishes.

Of course, one must taste out the Signature Teng Chai Chuk (RM 8.00). The porridge has many condiments that are added into it which includes anchovies, fried nuts, lots of scallions, cut fried fish paste and century eggs.

The next porridge is the Fish Paste Porridge (RM 8.00). The porridge is served with a soft texture fish paste.

There is a number of snacks food that is served at Kennys Food Cart among them are the Deep Fried Fish Paste (5 pcs for RM 4) which you can eat it with the porridge or noodles or on its own.

Next, we had the Fish Head Soup Noodles (RM 9.50). At Kennys the fish head is fried to a deep crisp and served separately. My preference for Fish Head Noodles is for the fried fish to be cooked with the noodles as this will add more taste to the broth.

Another one of the signature dishes is the Cantonese-Style 'Loh See Fun' (RM8.00) which is cooked in a sauce much like the Cantonese Ying Yeong but with a slightly bland taste. It is cooked with minced pork meat and topped with the Fried Dried Shrimp. I like the fried dried shrimp which has a slightly salty taste which blended well and gives a nice flavour to the mouse noodles.

One of the new addition is the Stewed Soy Chicken (RM 7.90) which is served with an egg and a bowl of rice. A meal all by itself.

You can also check out the other dishes of Kennys Food Cart menu as above.

Restoran 126 Bittergourd Noodles - Taman Bukit Mayang Emas Petaling Jaya

It is not easy to find a particular shop that specialises in Bittergourd noodles. Recently, we chance upon this particular shop which is Restoran 126 Bittergourd Noodles located at 12, Jalan BM 1/2 Taman Bukit Mayang Emas Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

This shop has a simple no frill coffee shop setup which serves not just Bittergourd noodles but also some other noodles like the peppery soup, curry noodles, rice and porridge too.

We check out some of these house specialities; the first of which is the Bittergourd Special Meat Paste Noodles (RM7.80). We like the soup base as it was a strong tasty clear broth, we found out that the owner uses chicken as its base ingredient to brew the broth. It takes around 4 hours of boiling to extract out the full flavours from the chicken.

We like the Bittergourd as it does not have a very strong bitter taste; The Bittergourd that are used are a premium grade that has a nice crunch without being over bitterly in taste. This type is used especially for cooking purpose while the meat paste is made with minced meat with black fungus and chopped fried squid pieces. To complement the noodles; soft silky white Tau Foo and cut pieces of tomatoes are added in to give a different texture and taste to this noodle.

The second noodle that we tasted was the Seaweed Fish Paste Noodle (RM7.30). The fish paste is in-house made with 2 types of fish. It has a firm, bouncy texture and has a strong fish flavours. The seaweed that is used here is also of a good quality which does not cloud the soup base.

This is then followed by an order of Pepper Pork noodles (RM7.50). For this soup based we decided to try out the Yee Mee for the noodle. We like the strong peppery taste of the soup. It is the balance concoction of the black and white pepper from Sarawak that gets this peppery aroma and the real peppery kick.

and the last soup noodle is the Herbal Noodle (RM7.30). Our choice of Noodles is the Mee Suah. A nice choice as the Mee Suah absorbs the strong herbal wine fragrant broth. A combination of mixed herbs is used to produced this strong herbal broth and with a sprinkle of Hsiao Heng wine; it really makes the broth addictive. The noodles are then topped with a half boil eggs and wolfberries.

One of the other specialities of Restoran 126 Bittergourd Noodles is the Curry Noodles. The version here is slightly different that we are used to, in that it is infused with a Nyonya touch. This special family secret recipe has been passed down to one of the partners; the key to the taste lies with the preparation of all the ingredients which are prepared in-house to ensure the quality of the curry paste.

Available in limited daily quantities is the Deluxe Curry Noodles (RM10.00) which has a condiment and ingredients filled Curry Noodles; with freshly peel Cockles, Curry Chicken, Roast Pork (Siew Yok), Char Siew, Long Beans, Meatballs, Fish Balls, Fried Pork Skin, Bean Sprout, Fish Paste and your choice of Noodles.

Another off-menu item is the Seafood Noodle (RM13.90); comes with 3 Prawns, loads of Lala, Fish Paste and soft white Tau Foo. An order of this noodle comes with a Free Ice Lemon Tea or Barley. You can choose your soup base to go with these seafood i.e. Bittergourd, Seaweed, Pepper or Curry. A real treat for seafood lovers.

We were recommended to try out the porridge that is served at Restoran 126 Bittergourd Noodles Restaurant, we got to taste the Salted Eggs with Century Eggs and Minced Meat Porridge (RM8.00). The soft texture of the porridge is the testament that it was boiled for a long time. A hearty meal to warm your stomach if you choose to have a lighter meal.

To give more option to its customer, Restoran 126 Bittergourd Noodles Restaurant, also offers some rice dishes for you to choose from. One that caught our eyes is the Pork Chop Rice with Mushroom. At RM9.90, it is really value for money as you get a big piece of the Pan Fried Pork Chop that comes with the rice. We like the shitake mushroom with minced meat sauce as it is paired well with the steamed white rice.

The restaurant also offers a couple of snacks for you to choose, but too bad, we only have stomach for just one type which is the Fried Wantan (RM9.00 for 10 pcs). The meat filling taste was just right with the balanced flavour, it would have been better if not for the slight over frying of the Wantan.

For the coffee enthusiast, you must try out the coffee here. For the price you paid for (RM2.70); you get to taste a large glass of strongly brewed coffee that will linger in your mouth after every sip without paying a premium price.

If you are really looking for values for money with good quality ingredients, you would not go wrong at Restoran 126 Bittergourd Noodles Restaurant.

Bentong Food - What To Eat and What Not in Bentong Pahang

Bentong town in Pahang is a very popular stop for travelers to the east coast. This is the town where many people will make a pit-stop before continuing their journey. There have been many blog site featuring Bentong Food, so on one our latest food trail to Sungai Lembing and Kuantan for a short break, we decided to try out some of these recommended food places.

We started very early in the morning so that we can reach Bentong by 8am to have our breakfast in Bentong town which is famed for its Wantan Noodle.

As we arrive at the Kedai Kopi Yuen Kee which is next to the Bentong morning market; it was already very pack; we started looking for a seating place at the coffee shop. It looks like every table is waiting for this Wanton Noodles. We were hoping for a real treat.

Upon our order of the dry wanton noodles, we also decided to order the Yong Tau Foo like every table does as the waiting time is about 45 min to 1 hour for the wanton noodle.

The verdict of the Yong Tau Foo was not bad, we like the Tau Foo Pok, as the texture was quite soft and smooth compared with those from KL which has a firmer texture.

we also order the others "Liew" like the Bitter Gourd, Brinjal and Fried bean curd which the verdict is passable.

Next, we tried their Chee Cheong Fun from the same store, but the sauce fails miserably and it has a taste that we are not really accustomed to.

Our order of the Wantan noodles came soon after we finish our Yong Tau Foo. There were very little pieces of thin slices of Char Siew and taste wise there are nowhere frankly speaking is nowhere comparable with any of the KL wanton noodle seller.

The dry wanton noodle which was ordered was just drenched in black thick soya sauce and no other taste. We were really disappointed after all the hype and waiting for this must eat in Bentong. The only saving grace was the Yong Tau Foo in this Kedai Kopi Yuen Kee.

We then left to go to the KOW PO ice cream shop which has been in business for more than 40 years. As it was 930am, the shop is not opened yet as can be seen in our photo, but after some chat with Mr. Kow, he obliged to sell us some of his ice-cream for us to taste as we told him, we are from KL and on the way to Kuantan and won't be coming back.

The Ice cream is made fresh and has many flavors to choose from. We tried out the peanuts flavoured ice cream (RM3.50 per scoop).

and the chocolate flavours which was really chocolatey and has a very smooth soft texture. We left Bentong after our ice-cream stop and continue our food journey to Sungai Lembing, Kuantan. More of this in our other post below.
