Leong's Kitchenette USJ 21 Subang Jaya - Tasty Family Secret Recipe Food Review Best Restaurant



If you are near the Main Place @USJ 21, you can try out some special family home cook secret recipe of the Leong Kitchenette located at 5-1, Jalan USJ 21/7 47620 Subang Jaya Selangor.


Leong Kitchenette @USJ 21 has a very simple, clean and a no frill setup. It offers a friendly family dining atmosphere with simple flavourful dishes.


+BestRestaurant ToEat started the food review with a starter which is Assam Flavour Squid
(RM 16.00). The assam paste was extremely flavourful while the white squid was fresh and has a bouncy texture which was complemented with the ladies fingers and long beans. It has us adding rice as the sauce have the right spiciness and assamese taste.


Next, was the Hong Kong Style Fried Chicken Wings (RM 14.00) (S). The chicken wings skin was fried to a very crispy and crunchy texture although the use of batter was minimal.  The deep flavour of the paste used to marinate the wings was very delicious although a tad of saltiness was evident. Best eaten with white rice.


After that was the Braised Pork Belly with Yam (RM 12.00), a special homemade secret recipe that is used to braised this Hakka pork belly.  Like the earlier dish, it is best eaten with rice. We are a little concern now that we will be too full after the amount of rice that we have taken as it is only our 3rd dish.


To complement our dishes with a vegetables, we had the Stir Fry Watercress with Garlic (RM 10.00). The watercress used was the baby watercress which has a very nice soft springy texture.


Another dish that goes well with the rice is the Bean Curd Home Made Thai Style (RM 9.00). Being Thai, the sauce has a sourish base and a little spicy with fish sauce taste. 


Another dish for the rice was the Chicken Drumsticks with Marmite Sauce (RM 14.00). The chicken thigh are first fried and then coated with a flavourful marmite sauce that has a sticky feel.


For those that like to have a fish to accompanied their meal, you can try out the Tilapia Steamed with Home Made Paste (RM 18.00). It would have been perfect if they add in the crunchy pork lard to give it an extra taste.

A Chinese meal cannot go by without a soup;  for us, we had 2 different double boil soup; the first of which is the Old Cucumber soup (RM6.00). 


and the Lotus Root with Peanut soup (RM6.00).


At Leong's Kitchenette @USJ 21, there are 2 Specialty Dishes; the first of which is the Fried Porridge - also one of the main reason, we are here today as we have never their fried porridge before. The first Fried Porridge that we had is the Mackerel (Tenggiri) Fried Porridge (RM 10.50). How to cook Fried porridge? Essentially you start with frying some ginger with some chicken stock and then putting your ingredient like mackerel and then porridge which is then fried and topped with premium quality sesame oil.


The second is the Abalone Sliced Fried Porridge (RM 12.00). I find this a little more clear compared to the earlier one which has a stronger taste from the fried mackerel fish.


The second specialty of Leong's Kitchenette is the serving of the Crabs, the first of which was the Salt Baked Crab. The crab are first fried and then tossed with salt and margarine to give it a nice dried smokey buttery taste. Love the size and the freshness of the crab which was from Indonesia.


The next crab that we had is the Spicy Milky Crab. This is a real special family recipe; we find the sauce very close to the butter style sauce but instead of using butter, the chef uses the sweeten milk (the one that they used for fish head noodle). We were told that 1/2 can of the milk is used to cook this crab or you can imagine the taste of the sauce.


This Spicy Milky Crab is best eaten with the Fried mantou (RM 4.00) for 6 pieces. The fried golden brown mantou has a crisp texture on the outside while the filling is soft; you can lick up the sauce with this mantou. Leong's Kitchenette @USJ 21 is having a promotion for their crab which is RM 65.00 per kg - (normal price is RM85.00).


If you are one that really enjoy good food and not the ambiance or decor, Leong's Kitchenette @USJ 21 Subang Jaya is a definite place to go for some real home cook dishes and most important for Crab lover you don't need to travel far to enjoy some nice crabs or specialty Fried Porridge.

Pizzolo @ Atria Shopping Gallery Damansara Jaya - Modern Italian Cuisine Review

 

Atria Shopping Gallery has recently open its doors after a major facelift of the entire shopping centre. +BestRestaurant ToEat was invited to review a Modern Italian Cuisine at Pizzolo @Atria Shopping Centre located at C36, Concourse Floor Atria Shopping Gallery, Jalan SS22/23, Damansara Jaya, Petaling Jaya, Selangor.


The decor at Pizzolo is one of a casual photo studio setting with vibrant colour decor to provide the ambiance for your dining pleasure.


We had 2 salad to start off our review; the first of it; is the Chilled Tomato, Watermelon and Feta (RM17.90). A refreshing start to our review as the watermelon which was cut to a mini log have the sweetness flavour mix with the Feta cheese.


Next, we had the Seared Scallop with Avocado (RM25.90). We love the texture of the large scallop. The Pan Seared Scallop which was sauteed with some light salt was flavourful and goes nicely with the Avocado sauce. 


This was then followed by the Traditional Italian Clam Chowder (RM16.90). The soup was cooked with fresh clam and was very tasteful especially when eaten with the accompanied buttered toast.


The next soup was the Wild Mushroom Cappuccino (RM14.90); we were expecting that coffee would be used to cook this soup; but it was not meant to be. The Cappuccino is the foam that was topped up on the soup. 


After that, we had the Wood Fired Pizza which the first is Roast Lamb Shoulder Pizza (RM35.90). The pizza crust is the thin crust and with it the crunchy feel when one bite into it. We had not really eaten any lamb pizza more so a lamb shoulder. We find the combination taste to be quite tasty.


Next, we had the South Texas Barbeque Chicken (RM28.90); We find the sauce a little sourish to our taste. It also has a very strong smoky taste and for those that loves BBQ sauce; would love this pizza.


Followed by the Sea Clams Linguini (RM28.90). Just love the simple aglio olio style of this pasta.


After that we had some small bites which the first is the Trio of Bruschetta (RM13.90). As the name suggest, there are 3 pieces of bruschetta; the first is topped with chopped tomato while the second is the mushroom and the 3rd piece is topped with chopped smoke salmon.


This is then followed by the Trout Ceviche On Kataifi (RM19.90). The Kataifi is a pastry like angel hair pasta and often referred as shredded wheat. It has a very distinctive taste (slight fishy taste) which you either love it or hate it.


To end the session, we had the Italian Crepe (RM15.90) with an addon Artisanal Ice Cream (RM6.90). We find the sauce which is lemon based; was on a sour note and gives a different taste to this crepe.


Pizzolo @ Atria Shopping Gallery will be a nice place to chill out or dine when you finish your shopping before heading home.

Ri Yakitori Bar @ Gardens Hotel Mid Valley Kuala Lumpur - Happy Hour Japanese Style


Happy hours in every country is different; for the British, they will go to a pub after work to enjoy a cold glass of beers with some snacks while for the Japanese they will normally head over to a Yakitori joint where they can have their drinks together with freshly grilled yakitori.


Best Restaurant To Eat was invited to a special Japanese small meal; Yakitori at Ri Yakitori Bar located at the 7th Floor, Gardens Hotel, Mid Valley.


The decor and ambiance of the restaurant is a simple design with minimal traditional Japanese setting which you find it most Japanese joint; This is so as a Yakitori setup is normally one of a casual dining where the main theme is on the liquor.


This is the first time, we had the experience of how Yakitori meals are served. To start our meal, we had the complimentary chilled cabbage served with sesame and wasabi sauce.


The chilled thinly sliced cabbage is mix with sesame and wasabi sauce which gives out a refreshing treat to start off the dinner with.


We then had an appetizer; which is Fried Garlic Mussel (RM29.00) with steamed sake served with Baguette.


The mussel was very fresh and with the accompanied baguette, all the garlic sauce with sake are wiped off clean from the bowl.


For the Yakitori, the first on the table was the Assorted Grilled Chicken (combo chicken set) (RM42.00) which has the chicken meat ball, chicken thigh meal, followed by chicken breast, chicken skin and chicken wings.


Japanese like to eat all the different parts of the chicken Yakitori style, there are also the liver, gizzard and other parts of the chicken that are served at Ri Yakitori.


The success of a yakitori is in the technique of the marination of the meat and the second one is the BBQ skill; here they use a special Charcoal Brisque which does not have much flame; this is to ensure that the meat does not easily charred.


After that we had the Wagyu Beef on Skewer (RM41.00); the meat was perfectly grilled and retains the full flavours of the premium meat while the meat was still very juicy and succulent.


The next beef dish is the Gyutan Beef Tongue (RM41.00). The beef tongue meat are thinly sliced and BBQ. It has that bouncy, springy texture when eaten. As most of the Yakitori tends to be a little salty, a cold sake would be the best to be taken with it.


After the Yakitori, we had the Tempura Moriawase (RM58.00) which is an assorted tempura set; we had the prawn, sweet potato, pumpkin, brinjal and the mushroom tempura. The accompanied tempura dip sauce was well balance and exudes the flavours of the tempura offering.


After that, we had a Japanese Shake Ochazuke which is Salmon Rice Soup (RM17.00). This is the first time, we had tasted a Japanese Rice soup. The Salmon are cooked and mince to flaky texture and added into the rice plus soup. Added with some wasabi, it has a very special warm feel when it was eaten.


The next rice dish is the Japanese Garlic Fried Rice (RM 17.00). It is served with spring onions and shredded seaweed.


For dessert, we had the Chef Special Matcha Ice Cream (RM20.00). The green tea ice cream is served with Mochi with strawberry, kiwi and grapes all line in. It is then topped with a thinly strip of cotton candy that makes this simple dessert into an elegant eye pleasing dessert to end our Yakitori experience.

Piggy Tail Restaurant @ Bangsar Porky and Piggylicious Meal Review


These days, restaurant that serves pork dishes are going upmarket with the offering of specialty pork which ensures premium quality meat. Best Restaurant To Eat was invited by Open Rice for a special piggylicious food review at Piggy Tail Restaurant located at 39, Jalan Telawi 3, Bangsar Baru, Kuala Lumpur.


The pork served here is from Sakura Pork where the pigs are raised using traditional and conventional method and are fed with vegetable grain feed only. This ensures that the meat does not have a gamy smell and the quality of the meat is ensured.


At Piggy Tail, it is a food adventure where western dishes are cooked with a twist of oriental flavours, thereby giving your taste bud an enticing experience. The decor at Piggy Tail is one of a leisure and open concept with al fresco dining at the front of the restaurant.


Our food review started off with a special starters/appetizer which is Pork Corn (RM16.00). This is a deep-fried chunks of Sakura Pork which is peppered with secret spices and served with Special BBQ Mayo. The pork meat used were of a special cut which has a balanced thin layer of skin, fat, meat and gives a very crisp texture and best paired with a glass of wine or cold beer.


This is then followed by Wild Mushroom Soup (RM18.00) This soup was cooked with 3 types of chopped mushroom, white cream and topped with a sprinkle of truffle oil to gives it an extra oomph to the mushroom.


Our main started with some pasta offering, the first of which is the Premium Pork Aglio Olio (RM25.00). This spaghetti is served with the Grilled Sakura Pork Neck Meat and cooked with Red Chilli Flakes, Garlic, Olive Oil and Sliced Bacon.


We loved the pork neck meat as it was grilled to the right balance while still retaining the succulent and juicy meat. With the chilli flakes, it gives it a spicy twist and was another nice dish to be paired with the cold beer.


The second pasta that we had was the Snowy Piggy Carbonara (RM22.00) this is a Creamy Bacon Spaghetti topped with an Egg Yolk and laden with overwhelming cheese topping which makes the pasta a little more salty to our taste.


The first main dish for the night was the Piggy Pork Shoulder Steak (RM45.00). This is a  premium Pork Shoulder Meat which is barbecued with a special in house made Piggy BBQ Sauce.


We find the meat extremely juicy, succulent and has a very good tender texture with each bite of the meat. This pork is served with Mash Potatoes and Salad.


Next is the BBQ Long Pork Ribs.(RM55.00) which is another premium meat; this one is long rib with Layers of Thick Meat balanced with some fat. Barbecued with our unique Piggy BBQ Sauce; the meat was tender and juicy and had our finger licking.


This is then followed by the Spicy Short Pork Ribs (RM58.00) which is a rack of premium, lean short ribs. It is then barbecued with the special Piggy Spicy Sauce and served with mash potatoes and salad.


We find this ribs a little too spicy though; but if you take it with a cold beer; that is another story altogether.


After the few pork dishes, the next is the Signature Lamb Chop (RM45.00) it is a grilled NZ Lamb Chop marinated with a specialty homemade Mongolian Sauce and served with chips and vegetable of the day.


Next, we had the Piggy Pork Burger. (RM28.00). An in house made Pork Burger Patty layered with melted cheese and fried onion rings between toasted buns and served with curly fries and salad. We have to say that the pork patties was very thick (before cooking it is 200g) and filled with natural pork flavour.


After that; we had the Mixed Pork Franks (RM30.00) a combination of 3 spiced premium pork frankfurter served with mash potatoes and salad.


The last pork dish is the Signature Pork Knuckles (RM86.00). The Pork Knuckle was pre-cooked and fried to a perfect brown crunchy skin while the inner meat still retains the succulent juicy texture. This pork knuckles is served with mash potatoes and salad with the Supreme Gravy Sauce for some additional taste for those that loved it with a tad of sauce for the pork knuckles meat.


The star of the night is our dessert which is the Truffles Ice Cream (RM18.00). This is a real nice dessert which comprise of a flavourful homemade truffle ice cream drizzled with crispy bacon bits and drowned in chocolate sauce. It gives our tastebud a perfect mix of crisp, sweet and savoury at in one scoop.


There you have it, all the piggylicious meal from start to end. For those that loves pork dishes that can be paired with cold beer or liquor; Piggy Tail @Bangsar will not definitely not disappoint you.
