Here at Pancake House, you can enjoy their Pancake House version of Nasi Lemak; which is using pancake as the base instead of the famed coconut milk rice. Available at all the Pancake House branch, you can now enjoy this Nasi Lemak dish via an a la carte order or as a set which comes with specially concocted Nasi Lemak Shake.

Serving of the Nasi Lemak Pancake is 2 pieces of pandan flavoured pancake which is sandwiched by pieces of freshly sliced cucumber with their very own concocted sambal offering which has a sweeter undertone.

Packed at the sides are a generous serving of fried anchovies and fried ground nuts with 2 pieces of Pancake House Fried Crispy Chicken and a sunny side up to complete this rendition.

To complement the Nasi Lemak Pancake is the Nasi Lemak Shake; which is another classic concoction that is derived from the Nasi Lemak ingredients. The bottom layer of this shake is a pandan syrup while the upper layer is a blending of coconut milk with crush ground nuts, anchovies and chillies which makes this drink a savoury drink. The drink is then topped with fried anchovies and fried groundnut.

Diners can order this Nasi Lemak Pancake Set Meal; which comes with a drink of Nasi Lemak Shake for RM 27.90 only. Alternatively, the ala carte Nasi Lemak Pancake by itself is priced at RM 19.90 while the Nasi Lemak Shake is RM12.90.

Another new dish from the Pancake House new menu is the Prawn Aglio Olio (RM19.95). The pasta is cooked with garlic oil with freshly cut chilli padi which infused some spicy taste and serve with 3 Fried Tiger Prawns.

During our Staycation recently at Marriott Putrajaya Hotel, we had our lunch at the Summer Palace Restaurant which has a special Dim Sum Set Lunch Menu at RM88.00 per person. We decided to try this crafted lunch menu set by Chef Dixon Lai.

Summer Palace Dim Sum Set Lunch Menu - Deep Fried Salmon Fish Skin With Salted Egg Yolk

The Dim Sum Set Lunch Menu started with a Deep Fried Salmon Fish Skin With Salted Egg Yolk. The Salmon Fish skin is fried to a crunchy crisp with a well smothered salted egg yolk into every inch of the crispy fish skin, we just can't stop taking one piece after another.

The second starter is a cold starter which is the Marinated Japanese Cucumber With Minced Garlic. The chef has added a special peppercorn that has a tongue-numbing sensation after we bite into it. The Zucchini has a nice crunch bite while the black fungus slippery texture makes them ideal complimentary ingredients.

Next on the menu is the Braised Hot & Sour Szechuan Soup With Prawn Dumpling. Being a Szechuan dish, you can expect a nice sourish spicy taste to this soup. The prawn dumpling was simply marvellous as each bite into the prawn filling which was sandwich into the dumpling skin was superb. It is indeed a nice change instead of the familiar Wanton soup based.

The next dish came in a bamboo basket which is a Dim Sum Combination of four exquisite Dim Sum dishes. In it, you can see what look like a goldfish Dim Sum which essentially is the Steamed Seafood Dumpling With Japanese Dumpling while the other one is the Steamed Squid Ink Prawns Dumpling with Black Truffle Oil.

And finally, the dish that will fill your tummy is the Wok Fried Flat Noodles & Crispy Flat Noodles With Seafood & Egg Sauce.  Conventionally this Cantonese Yin Yeong is using the Fried Vermicelli but Chef Dixon uses the Flat Noodles which is the crispy portion of this dish. It is something out of the norm but it does taste nice.



For Dessert, we had the Baked Lemon Cheese Tarts to end our meal.

Summer Palace Chinese Restaurant at Marriott Putrajaya Hotel famed for its fine Cantonese Cuisine has recently undergone a revamp of the restaurant. With the new renovation; it offers diners with a more luxurious dining ambience.

With the new appointment of Chef Dixon Lau as the new Executive Chinese Chef; he has crafted out a number of modern Cantonese dishes that has a twist to serve its discerning guest with an exquisite  Chinese Fine Dining experience. Chef Dixon has many years of experience from famous Chinese Restaurant which include Chynna Chinese Restaurant at Kuala Lumpur Hilton, Yuk So Hin Restaurant at Weil Hotel, Ipoh and more.


For him, from the many years of experience thru the tutelage of Master Chinese Chef; he has mastered the art of using natural ingredient and condiments which exudes its natural umami to enhance the flavour and taste of the dishes without the used of artificial food enhancer.

Braised Bird's Nest on Steamed Eggs White Summer Palace Chinese Restaurant Marriott Putrajaya Hotel

Among his new signature dishes that are presented to us is the starter dish which is Braised Bird's Nest on Steamed Eggs White. This dish reminiscent of a Lotus Pond with the full blossom. The bird's nest is laid on top of a smooth soft steamed spinach flavoured egg white together with scraped truffle that lines the sides. The combination of the light flavour of the egg white paired with the spongy texture of the bird's nest with the truffle taste was awesome.

The next dish is the Smoked Beef Cheek With Lychee Wood and Pur-Er Tea. According to Chef Dixon, there is plenty of time and effort required to prepare this simple looking dish. The Australian chilled beef cheek is first braised with a number of Chinese spices and herbs under low temperature for more than 2 hours. Then it is smoked for 1.5 hours in a mixed combination of Lychee Wood and Pur-Er tea to infused this flavour into the braised beef cheek. The end result is a melt in the mouth, succulent moist beef texture that has a strong pleasant aroma of the smokey flavour in every bite. It is bedded with baked pumpkin and topped with fried julienne carrot together with poached asparagus to add colours and texture dimension to this dish.

This is then followed by the Baked Of Cod Fish With Organic Black Garlic Cream. Normally at the Chinese restaurant; Cod Fish is usually served by the steam cooking style which gives a nice texture to the flaky cod fish but Chef Dixon has chosen to infused a western style which is baking the Cod Fish.

The Cod Fish is sandwiched in a layer of black garlic cream with turkey ham and mushroom. We can taste the firm flaky moist texture of the codfish while the black garlic dressing with a sweet tangy taste was a nice finish that marries well with the natural taste of the fish.

Rice Vermicelli With River Prawn and Superior  Prawn Broth Summer Palace Chinese Restaurant Marriott Putrajaya Hotel

The last dish we had; was the Rice Vermicelli With River Prawn and Superior  Prawn Broth. The process to prepare the broth is another time-consuming process (about 3 hours) to extract the full flavour of the ingredients such as prawns, carrots, bay leaf, tomatoes and more. The choice of noodles used is the silky smooth rice vermicelli which allows the broth to encapsulate the broth into every strand of the noodle. The River Prawn which has a bouncy firm texture is the testament to the freshness of the prawn; is lightly pan-fried. Needless to say, we slurp up every drop of the flavorful broth and noodles.

For dessert, the Chef Dixon has created a chilled dessert which is Carrot Puree With Edamame and Vanilla Ice-cream. The carrot puree is made from the blending of cooked carrot, whipping and full cream milk to provide a silky smooth texture while the Edamame is used to give the diners a crunch texture feel to the dessert & colouring while the ice-cream and chilled dragon fruit provide a cold end to this delicious desserts.

De Centrum Mall Bangi 1957 Kopi + Makan Bangi Hangout Cafe



Looking for a place to hang out with your friends and families in Bangi, there is this new cafe, 1957 Kopi Makan at the De Centrum Mall in Bangi.

At 1957 Kopi + Makan cafe, you will be greeted with a modern cafe setting. The cafe started more than 1 year ago with its menu featuring the local food such as the Nasi Lemak Ayam Berempah and local favourites. Recently, they have included in the new menu, some western delights to offers its customer a more varied choice. We had the chance to taste out some of these western fares and some local favourite dishes.



Our review started with an order of the Nicoise Salad (RM12.90). A combo of potatoes stack with French Beans, Cherry Tomatoes, Black Olives and Smoked Salmon with a vinegarette dressing topped with a Poached Egg.


After which, we sampled the Big Breakfast Set (RM28.90). A complete breakfast set with a choice of eggs done to your style i.e. Sunny side up, poached or scrambled. The Set also comes with sausage, baked beans, grilled tomatoes and a choice of chicken ham or beef bacon. Every order of the breakfast set comes with a glass of orange juice to complete a hearty breakfast. If you are a small eater, this Big breakfast can be had for 2 persons.


Moving along, we had the Chicken Chop (RM16.90). You can opt for 3 styles of cooking for your Chicken Chop which is the Hainan, Black Pepper or Mushroom sauce to go with your Chicken Chop. We had the Black Pepper style for our order. At 1957 Kopi + Makan, the sauce is not drenched on the Chop but instead serves separately, which is better especially for those that does not like it too saucy. We like the deep fried crisp to the chicken while the meat was still tender and succulent.


Our second mains was the Roasted Chicken (RM17.90). We really like this as the roasted chicken skin coupled with the creamy thyme sauce was perfectly matched out. Served with the accompaniments of mix potato and poached vegetables. Needless to say, we finish not only the chicken but the sauce as well.


1957 Kopi + Makan started off serving local dishes, so, we wanted to taste out one of its speciality dish which is the Nasi Kerabu Percik (RM15.90). This rice dish is served with cucumber pickled and raw sliced cabbages.


For snacks, we were strongly recommended with this Keropok Lekor (RM8.90) which was sourced directly from Terengganu. One of the main difference from the keropok lekor that we are familiar with its' tough chewy texture type. Incidentally, these type of keropok has been added with a voluminous amount of flour. But at 1957, these are very different as the inside texture is a soft type which has a stronger fish taste. It is truly a taste experience of a real Keropok Lekor as we were so used to the flour based type.


For desserts, we had a fusion Fried Banana Fritter aptly named as Pisang Special (RM5.90) which is topped with chocolate syrup and dashes of cheese to provide a milky taste to this dessert. Best eaten with an added scoop of vanilla ice cream that gives it a cool and hot feel to this special dessert.
