Lai Ching Yuen Chinese Restaurant New Cantonese Cuisine Menu @Grand Millennium Hotel Bukit Bintang Kuala Lumpur

Mention about Cantonese Cuisine, you will think about of  Lai Ching Yuen Chinese Restaurant Grand Millennium Hotel Bukit Bintang Kuala Lumpur. We are here to taste out some of the new Cantonese cuisines using a combination of fresh seafood, poultry and pork dishes which are specially crafted out by Executive Chinese Chef Terence Foong.

Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur Address
Lai Ching Yuen Chinese Restaurant
160 Jalan Bukit Bintang
55100 Kuala Lumpur
Tel: 03 - 2117 4888

Like an evocation of its name, Lai Ching Yuen presents a lush sensory experience as much as a gastronomic one. The decor and its stunning red and black interior create a glamorous setting for some of the best cuisine this side of Guangzhou. And the food, award-winning delicacies accented by oriental table settings, take the traditional refinement of Cantonese cuisine to dizzying heights.

Lai Ching Yuen's new a la carte menu is a testament to the inventive nature of the cuisine itself. Crafted by Executive Chef Terence Foong along with his team of the culinary brigade, it exudes a touch of modernity to both the presentation as well as cooking techniques and is a juxtaposition of flavours, textures and freshness.

For tonight our gastronomical journey started off with the Smoked Duck Breast With Chef's Special Dressing - The smoked duck breast pairs which are smoked to a nice smokey flavour is balanced off with the right amount of fats and served with chilled crunchy zucchini. Topped it up with the Chef's special secret sauce, that has a slight dash of spicy and sourish taste. A nice starter for the night to entice our taste buds.

Another appetiser on the menu was the Stuffed White Mushroom With Pork & Shrimp In Marmite Sauce. A combination of finely minced pork and shrimp stuffed into the mushroom which is coated with fragrant marmite sauce (we can smell the aroma of the marmite sauce even before the dish reached our table), providing a textural delight of crunchy, chewy and softness to the dish.

For the soup, the Chef serves us the Braised Crab Meat & Fresh Fish Maw. Great to be eaten with a dash of vinegar or preserved crunchy green chillies.

The first mains on the table was the Crispy Fried Cuttlefish With Salt & Pepper. Love the firm bouncy texture of the cuttlefish which are coated with the special flour battered that are infused with the right amount of salt and pepper. Best to be eaten accompanied with a Cold beer or a sip of hot Chinese tea.

For the fish dish, we were served a steamed Tiger Grouper with Chef Terence Foong's famous signature style which is the Ombak Style Tiger Grouper, Steamed With Soy Sauce. The Chef has made it easy for us to eat; as all the meat has been deboned; so naturally all the tender fish meat has the sauce which is gel into it making every serving a real delight to be eaten. As always, the nice slippery fish head has been slurped up by no want but yours truly.

Next on is the Crispy German Pork Trotter, another one of my favourite dishes. I just love the crispy skin of the pork knuckles which was pre-cooked and of a thought, it reminds me of the flavours of a nice cold German beer which will be the best partner for this dish.

Another pork dish which was served to us is the Baked Pork Ribs With Lemon Grass which was a wonder to eat. Fork-tender, flavourful baked pork ribs, richly seasoned and well-marinated in fragrant fresh herbs of lemongrass, baked to the right balance!

Stewed Stuffed Sea Cucumber With Shimeji Mushroom & Bean Curd, an exquisite dish that accentuates the best texture and taste of each of the ingredients, Braised with the Shimeji mushroom and premium oyster sauce, it is a light taste which is perfect to partner with the soft and smooth tofu.

For the prawn dish, the chef; dish out the flavourful HongKong style Wok-Fried Bei Fong Tong Style Prawns. This aromatic seafood dish packs a load of punchy spicy taste. Crispy battered prawns are entrenched with lots of dried chilli and sliced almonds to give it; its aromatic distinctive flavour.

To add a little extra flavour; our last dish before the dessert is the Fried Rice With Goose Liver Pate & Pine Nuts. This use of the liver pate adds a dimension of taste to the fried rice which was cooked with a strong Wok-Hei flavour.

For dessert, we had 2 dishes, the first of which is the Deep Fried Durian With Yam Puff. This dessert resembles the Yam Puff (Woo Kok) but the filling was changed to Durian custard which has a very strong durian flavour which as Malaysian and Durian fans will love this dessert.

And the last dessert is the White Rabbit Sherbet, which has tinges of white rabbit candy fluttered around the sherbet. Remind ones of the good old days when we eat this candy and the wrapper as well. An interesting end to our food review.

Golden Dragon Boat Restaurant 2017 Chinese New Year Johnnie Walker Special Pairing Dishes

Usher in the 2017 Chinese New Year (Year Of The Rooster) with the
luxurious flavours of Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve And Golden Dragon Boat Restaurant Special Chinese New Year Set Menu Pairing.

Golden Dragon Boat Restaurant Address
10, Jalan Kampung Pandan,
Kelab Golf Di Raja Selangor,
55000 Kuala Lumpur

Blended from selected reserves of malt and grain whiskies to create the premium drinks experience, Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve is touted as the celebratory blend fit for indulgent celebrations and festive seasons. Its multi-layered luxurious, creamy and honeyed flavours which are made for unforgettable events with friends and family, is enjoyed neat or even with a choice of mixers due to its versatility.

In conjunction with the upcoming Chinese New Year festive season, Johnnie Walker, the world's number one Scotch whisky, has collaborated with the Golden Dragonboat Restaurant, one of Kuala Lumpur’s most exquisite restaurant that serves quality Chinese cuisine in traditional fine dining ambience, to introduce a specially selected Chinese New Year indulgent menu that would pair perfectly well with the versatile blend.

Introducing the Golden Dynasty Set (RM 1,688++) featuring Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve and a selection of mouthwatering dishes include:-

The first dish on the table is the Braised Australian 3 Head Abalone With Fish Maw - The fish maw was braised to a nice spongy texture while the firm texture of the abalone clearly distinguishes the taste and flavours of these 2 key ingredients. Served with the crunchy boiled broccoli on the side, it makes the perfect combination of the ingredient in this premium dish.

The second dish under this set menu is the Baked Water Prawn With Cheese. Cut in half, each prawn is cooked to extract out the full flavour of the prawn roe with the firm white meat of the fresh prawn. With a strong taste of the roe, it is a perfect match to the light taste of the whisky.

The next dish is the Roasted Crispy Pork's Knuckle. Fried to a deep crisp and crunch, it is the best cooking method that is used to pair to the Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve. With a slightly salty and firm texture of the meat with a balance of fat and meat, it makes a flavourful combination that only a whisky connoisseur will be able to appreciate to its fullest.

The last dish is the Braised Rice With Rich Soup Served In Claypot. This version of braised rice has some similarity to the Teochew style porridge in which the rice are cooked with a rich seafood broth of prawns, crabmeat and seafood. It is indeed a flavourful dish to end our meal with.

Secret Garden Chinese Restaurant Taman Sea Petaling Jaya (PJ)

When it comes to Taiwanese food, it is usually associated with the ever popular street food like the Beef Noodles, Oyster Mee Sua or the famous Fried Chicken of Shilin. We recently discovered a new Taiwanese Restaurant which is Secret Garden Chinese Restaurant in Taman Sea Petaling Jaya that serves Authentic Taiwanese Chinese Cuisine.

Secret Garden Chinese Restaurant Address
7 & 9, Jalan SS 23/15,
Taman Sea,
47301 Petaling Jaya, Selangor

Why Secret Garden; was the question posed to the owner? According to the founder Andrew Tan, everyone has a secret place that one can retreat to when the bustle of the world rides wearily on one’s soul; a secret garden serves to rejuvenate the tired spirit, accompanied by hearty comfort food and the good cheers of loved ones.

The modern decor with all its wall lined with murals drawing invoke a sense of serenity coupled with the sound of running water from the cascading walls makes dining at Secret Garden  Chinese Restaurant; a truly de-stressing affair.

Our 10-course dinner started off with an appetiser, which is the Crispy Deep Fried Prawn Cracker (RM38.00). Fried to a deep crunchy crisp, coupled with a strong fragrant of the prawn paste filling it is indeed a nice starter to begin our meal.

Next is the tummy warming, hot piping soup which is called the Home Style Taiwanese Chicken Soup With Pickled Pineapple and Bitter Melon (RM18.00). It has that slight bitterly sweet sourish taste which stimulates our taste-buds for the upcoming dishes.

This is followed by the Steamed Free Range Duckweed Fed Chicken With Homemade Sauce (RM105.00). Duckweed which is of late gaining acceptance as a supplementary feed to poultry due to its high protein content. As the chicken is farm-raised, it possesses a firm tender meat texture with a natural sweetness of the chicken enhanced by the special homemade sauce.

The next dish is a real marvel i.e. Signature Taiwanese Style Braised "Dong Po" Pork Belly (RM66.00). The chef has done a remarkable job to braised the pork belly fats until it literally melts through the meat making it luscious and buttery; with a smooth mouth feel as the fats melt on the tongue.

Next is the Grouper Fish Head In Yellow Curry With Fresh Milk (RM92.00). The creaminess of the curry is contrasted with the tender, moist and flaky white-fleshed of the Grouper. Perfect with a bowl of steaming hot rice.

Our sixth dish is the Pan Fried Fresh King Prawn With Soya Sauce (RM156.00). The best part of the River King Prawns is its' head which is engulfed with the delicious flowing Roe. The bouncy and firm texture of the prawn meat is witness to the freshness of the prawns which was perfectly mated to the soya sauce. Needed a second helping with a bowl of white rice although we were told that we will be having a rice dish later.

After the heavy lifting of the earlier dishes, the next dish on the table is the Homemade Organic Black Soya Bean Tofu With Pumpkin Gravy (RM28.00) which is set to tone down our taste-bud. he Tofu is made in-house and topped with a generous topping of preserved vegetables and dried shrimp.

For our vegetable dish, we had the Stir Fried Garlic Chives With Mince Pork (RM38.00). This is not the normal chives but an imported chives which have a firmer texture and stronger taste.

As the waiter bring out the next dish which is the Pork Belly Fried Rice With XO Sauce (RM88.00), we could taste the aroma of the pork belly fats lards gelling up to every grain of rice. With the scallop infused XO sauce, it was a well-thought concoction for this tasty rice dish.

For dessert, we had the Herbal Jelly With Wild Honey (RM12.00).

Secret Garden Chinese Restaurant inspiration stem from the goal to provide a wholesome home-cooked Chinese and Taiwanese cuisine, focusing on the freshness and original taste of natural ingredients - food that reminds you of home, family comfort, and heartfelt simplicity; served in a peaceful garden-like oasis.
