Olle Cafe Desa Sri Hartamas - A Korean Inspired Cafe Review by Best Restaurant

Most cafe that are setup in Klang Valley are usually owned by Malaysian, but Olle Cafe is actually a Korean owned cafe. Best Restaurant To Eat was invited to review Olle Cafe which located at 26-G, JALAN 24/70A, DESA SRI HARTAMAS, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; special food and coffee offering.

As with most cafe, the Olle Cafe Sri Hartamas is a simple cafe setup with a minimal setting that focus on a convenient and self service offering.

One of the unique features about Olle Cafe Sri Hartamas is that; it roasts its own coffee beans right in the outlet, This is as fresh as you can get for coffee enthusiast.

With a Korean root, the first dish we had is one of the Korean favourite food which is the Bulgogi Rice, the beef meat are pre marinated and then cooked with a special Korean sauce which has a tinge of sweetness. The side of Fried Kim Chi makes this a truly Korean affair.

This is then followed by a western pasta dish which is theVegetarian Pasta with fresh Italian herbs; it was a combination of eggplant, peas and Italian herbs served with parmigiano cheese and Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO).

The creamy cheese sauce was of the right texture while the egg plants have a firm texture that gives it a crunch feel without being too hard. The Chef was able to bring out the natural flavour and taste of the vegetables.

Next, we had the Signature : Olle Grilled Chicken Sandwich - The centrepiece meat was a grilled chicken breast served with torched mozzarella cheese, fresh lettuce and Olle Chef special tomato spicy sauce with the Ciabatta bread.

I personally like the special spicy mayo sauce that came with the sandwich; while the grilled breast meat was grilled to the right smoky taste which still retain some of the chicken juice.

At Olle Cafe Sri Hartamas, they serves breakfast with a different twist i.e. you can select what are the items you want for your breakfast set for example, you can select the way you want your eggs done. You can choose from either 3, 5 or 7 item from the special menu, depending on how small or big you want your breakfast to be.

This is then followed by another pasta dish which is Spaghetti Meat ball Marinara.

Taste wise the meat ball was flavourful with the marinara sauce but it was a little off mark for me as I find it to be a tad too soft; as I personally preferred a slightly firm texture for my meatball.

To end our meal, we had the Affogato with a single shot of expresso.

At Olle cafe Sri Hartamas, while enjoying your cup of freshly roasted and freshly brewed coffee, you can also enjoy it with some special food offering to complete your meal.

Korean Wang BBQ Centre - SS2 Petaling Jaya - A New Korean BBQ Restaurant Review By Best Restaurant

SS2, Petaling Jaya has a lot of restaurant offering various foods like steamboat, cafes and etc but very few BBQ restaurant; more so for Korean BBQ. Best Restaurant To Eat was invited for a food review at the newly opened Korean Wang BBQ Centre located at 42, Jalan SS2/66, Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

Speaking of Korean run BBQ restaurant, you will usually find it in Ampang and Solaris Publika; reason being most Korean are living around those areas but Korean Wang BBQ Centre decided to start their business in the food capital of PJ that is SS2; as they want to bring this Korean specialty to be enjoyed by the masses.

The decor is simple and does not really look much like most Korean restaurant. One of the special design is the smoke eksoz chimney which has a vacuum system that extract out all the fumes during the BBQ session. This makes the place less smoky and more pleasurable without getting smoky smell all over your body after the meal.

The BBQ stove uses a special charcoal which is less smoky to grill the meat.

I have tasted quite a number of Korean BBQ and find that the way the meat, Korean Wang BBQ Centre prepared and its serving portion is a step upward ie. the portion are bigger and its taste is comparable if not better than some of their counterpart in Ampang.

For the Korean BBQ, you can order the set which comprises of meat and other food while the ala carte gives you a better option to order the type of meat and dishes that you enjoyed.

As with most Korean BBQ, the waiter will do it for you as they will know the right way to grill your meat to perfection while retaining the juiciness and soft smoky texture of each of the meat portion.

Korean BBQ is usually served with an array of side dishes which includes kimchi, fresh garlic, special sauce, sesame and salt dip, fresh green chillies and of course fresh green lettuce for you to wrap the meat in.

We started with the Grill Pork Belly - Samgyeopsal which has a generous portion. Grilled to a slight smoky and tender texture, the combination of the fats and meats of the Pork Belly, with the fresh lettuce wrap was the great start for a wonderful meal ahead.

the Samgyeopsal being grilled on the stove.

The next grilled that we had was the Grill Pork Shoulder - Moksal - this part is more for those that does not like to eat the grill pork fats as in the pork belly, as the meat are leaner compared with the Pork Belly that we had earlier.

the Moksal looking perfectly grill on the stove.

Followed by the Pork Rib marinated in special Soy Sauce - DwaeJi Galbi - The special sauce enhances the meat and you do not really need any other sauce to dip for this dish.

The last meat that was to be grilled is the Marinated Chicken - it is already flavoured with a special sauce and like the DwaeJi Galbi, you can just eat it after the grilled with no additional sauces dip required as it is sufficiently flavourful.

After the BBQ, we were served with other side dishes which you can order ala-carte or as a special lunch set; the first of which is the Kimchi Jigye (Kimchi Stew). It is a Kimchi soup which has small pieces of pork belly cooked in it. I find that this Kimchi Jigye was to my taste as it is not too overly sourish.

Next, we has the DoenJang Jigye (Soy Bean Based Stew) which has some seafood and taufoo added into it.

Followed by the Tteokbokki. I am not a real fan of Tteokbokki as most of the restaurant, that I had eaten previously, they tend to be a little too hard, but at Korean Wang BBQ, the Tteobokki served here has the right texture and the sauce was just right without being too overly sweet or sourish.

The chef has also cooked up some new dishes to be introduced, which is the special Cheesy Pork Rib in special Korean Spicy sauce. The sauce tasted much like the "Pie Kat Wong", and the soft firm texture of the meat was gel and wrap in the melted cheese topping.

and the Chicken Thigh in Cheese Sauce. similar in taste but with chicken thigh as the meat base.

One other dish is the Cheese Omelette which has a layer of cheese wrap in the omelette. The eggs were very fluffy while each bite; you could savour the cheesy and smooth soft texture of the egg.

Some of the offering of the Special Lunch set.

For folks in Petaling Jaya especially SS2, you need not have to travel all the way to Ampang to savour Korean BBQ, you can just pop by to Korean Wang BBQ Centre at SS2 to savour this delicacy.

Choi’s Don & Dak @Kuchai Entrepreneur Park Old Klang Road, Korean Teppan BBQ Table Review

DakGalBi is one of the most popular Korean meals. Best Restaurant To Eat was invited to review this new restaurant Choi’s Don & Dak located at 30, Jalan Kuchai Maju 8 Kuchai Entrepreneur Park Off Old Klang Road Kuala Lumpur.

Choi’s Don & Dak décor is one of a very simple setting and it is brightly lit place where you can easily see what is being cooked in the hot teppan top.

In the centre of each table is a special thick cast iron hot plate where the DakGalBi will be cooked.

One of the biggest problem eating DakGalBi is that there will be a lot of vapour that emits from the hot plate and when you are done with your meal, your whole body and clothes shirt is blanketed with this vapour of BBQ. So, this special hot plate actually does not emit that much vapour as compared to some other DakGalBi restaurant, so you won't be smelt like a BBQ after leaving the restaurant.

Another feature of this special cast iron hot plate is, it does not burn easily so the food will continue to stay piping hot and you can continue eating it without rushing.

We understand that all DakGalBi outlet will only serves chicken meat, but at Choi Don & Dak, customers can opt for either Chicken or Pork. The Pork is serve using the style of Jumuluck where the pork meat are hand press and massage with the special pork sauce before serving it.

The cost per head for the DakGalbi at Choi Don & Dak @Kuchai Entrepreneur Park is RM19.80 per head and it is serves with a generous portion of vegetables with some side of vegetables i.e fresh green lettuce as a wrap, garlic slices, green chillies, pickled onion and a special mash potato.

One of the key plus point at Choi's Don & Dak is that all the DakGalbi sauce are made in-house using pear, apple, fruits and some special ingredient which are made by the boss herself Ms Grace Choi, from Korea. So, you really get to taste the original Korean Homemade flavours at this restaurant.

Eating this DakGalbi with a wrap of lettuce and garlic slice.

For some add-on, you can choose the mix sausage where you can choose 3 flavours out of 5 which include the normal, cheese, black pepper, garlic, or mushroom sausage. Note: All the add-on the picture for the add-on is just a half portion. You actually gets more than that for your orders.

You can also add on fresh mushroom which includes the shimeji and Enoki at RM8.00.

Other option of noodles includes the Udon (RM7.00)

Ramen (RM6.00) and mozzarella cheese (RM8.00).

For those that would like a simple meal, you can opt for a Ramyun Ramen - RM12,00.

or the Korean Jiapaghetti (RM7.80)- it is a dry ramen that taste much like the dry wantan noodle.

Or if you are a rice person, you can opt for the Fried Rice With Dry Laver. This special fried rice uses the Japanese round grain sticky rice with Korean seaweed, Kim chi sauce and fresh green lettuce.

The rice is fried on the teppan top till a crisp on the outer layer. The rice has a strong fragrant of the seaweed, much like the taste of fried sushi.

Finally, we had the Pork Cutlet (RM16.80), which is coated with bread crumbs and fried to a crisp and topped with an onion brown sauce.

The next time, you have a yearning for some real Korean Teppan BBQ, you might want to give Choi's Don & Dak @ Kuchai Entrepreneur Park a try.
