AH SOON KOR SS3 - SABAH TUARAN MEE AND SPECIALITIES DISHES

For Sabahan in the Klang Valley, if you do miss Sabahan dishes can always head over to RESTORAN AH SOON KOR, 42, Jalan SS3/31, Taman Universiti, Petaling Jaya, Selangor. This place has been around for more than 6 years now,

Here at Ah Soon Kor, they do serve a number of famous and popular Sabah dishes such as the Tuaran Mee, Sang Nyuk Noodles and Beaufort Mee. I was around the neighbour to taste out some of their specialities.

"AH SOON KOR SS3 - SABAHAN TUARAN MEE AND SPECIALITIES DISHES"

The first dish is the Sabah Tuaran Mee which have some resemblance to the wanton noodles but the key difference is the Char siew, Here in the Klang Valley, we are more accustomed to the dark red version while the Tuaran Mee is roasted with a fairly light reddish outlook. 

Besides the Char Siew, it is also topped with a concoction of Minced pork meat that gives the Tuaran Mee a special taste.

Next on, I was coaxed to try the Fried Ikan Basung. It was fried to a nice crunch and was crispy right to the bone. You can eat the fish head which has a nice crunchy texture. The dish is also served with a special sambal sauce that you can dip with but I love the natural taste of the fish with the crunchy feel.

While it was crunchy on the outside the fish meat is still tender and juicy. Frankly speaking, I had not tasted Fried Basung aka Sardines but this is a really nice treat with a glass of cold icy beer.

The next dish is the Choy Heong Tau Foo, the tau foo are in-house made fresh and moulded in a circular bowl form and fried to a nice brown outlook. It is then topped with minced pork meat and layered with a special soy based sauce. Perfect compliment with a bowl of white rice.

The final dish is the Sabah Style Yam and Pork. It looks almost like the Hakka style Yam and Pork dish that we are accustomed to but has a much stronger taste of the fermented bean paste (Nam Yue). The Yam was the perfect soft texture while the pork meat was tender and its marinade was just right. An order for another bowl of white rice was in order.

Overall, I like the taste of the dishes serves at Ah Soon Kor except for the Tuaran Mee which I still prefer our Wanton Noodles but for Sabahan, this might be just the taste they expect. Also, the prices of the dishes are affordable and wouldn't burn a hole in your pocket.

It is a weekend and what better way to eat to your heart content on a Saturday or Sunday with a Weekend High Tea Buffet at Feast @ Sheraton PJ which is a dining restaurant in Sheraton Petaling Jaya Hotel, Selangor.

We had the opportunity to dine on a lazy Saturday afternoon with a wide variety of spread from the Feast Restaurant Sheraton PJ. As we arrived on the dot at 12.30pm to start this All-You-Can-Eat weekend High Tea Buffet.

There are just too many choices of food to choose from starting with the popular Malay dishes such as Sambal Sotong, Kambing Masak Merah, Ayam Goreng Berempah and more.

Then moving to the Chinese section we had the Brocolli and Pea with Shrimp in Oyster Sauce, Lokam Clam Kung Po, Braised Mushroom With Brocolli and Ginger Chicken.

or try out the Dim Sum offering.

For fans of Seafood on Ice, there are the poached prawns, slipper lobster and mussels for you to choose from.

While for those that love to indulge in Japanese Sushi can taste the sushi dishes presented here.

There are also a number of Western Menu Main course to choose from.

Of course, what is Hi Tea without indulging in the dessert offering? Besides cakes and pudding, there are also ala-minute pancakes and Malaysian Goreng Goreng for you to taste for the later part of the High Tea Buffet. Then, finish off with a cup of tea or coffee from the coffee machine and not forgetting the ice-cream either eating as it is or to add into the cup of coffee.

For those staying around Sunway or Subang area are able to go to HotPot Kitchen Sunway Pyramid to taste these specialities without having to travel all the way to the other branch which is HotPot Kitchen One Utama or HotPot Kitchen Mid Valley.

For fans of HotPot Kitchen; there is no further introduction on how to enjoy this meals. But for those that are not so familiar; HotPot Kitchen is a very straightforward dining experience. You really get to choose only items that you really like to eat - much like a buffet steamboat.

There is only 2 section to choose from. First, you pick up a stainless bowl and head towards the vegetable section. 

here are wide varieties to choose from starting with the green leafy vegetables like spinach, ladies fingers, cabbages and so forth.

or the other vegetable section which includes the smooth tofu, fungus, mushroom, bean curd and many more.

All the vegetables are priced at RM3.99 per 100gm.

Using a different meat bowl, you then select your meat ingredients like the Chicken meat, beef slices or the different type of meatballs.

or for me, my favourite is the pork innards like the intestine (which the Chef will fry to a crisp), pork stomach and so forth. It does really blend with the spicy option. All the meat are priced at RM5.99 per 100 gram.

Finally, you can also choose some premium add-on which includes fish fillet and brown squid.

After your selection of Vegetables and Meat, you move to the counter where the cashier will weigh your selected ingredients. You can also have an add-on of instant noodles to your dish.

The next step is to order your flavours which only has 4 flavours which are the Unique Platter (Non-Spicy option) and the Spicy Option (with 3 level of spiciness namely - Spicy Fragrant, Spicy Dynamic and Spicy Xtreme). 

For me, I am just good with Level 1 Spicy Fragrant level. If you accidentally bite into the Sichuan peppercorns, there is a unique numbing effect on your tongue, I suppose this is one of the reasons why so many people yearn for these HotPot dishes is to experience this effect.

You can order your drinks at this point. Upon confirming your orders you will be given an electronic buzzer that will buzz when your food is ready.

Once in a while, when you crave for some Hot and spicy dish, can head over to the HotPot Kitchen for your douses of Ma Lat (Hot Pot) cravings.

One of the key point at HotPot Kitchen is that all steps are taken to ensure that the foodstuffs & ingredients are selected for its finest quality and freshness and goes thru a sterilization process.

At HotPot Kitchen, many do not realize that they have an ala carte menu where you can order the Ma Lat Chicken Wings.  

or the Arasi La La which has its own distinctly spicy taste.
