The Embassy Cafe Facebook

Inspired by the warmth and gracious hospitality of embassies from around the world, The Embassy café seeks to bring the exciting spirit of the journey, adventure, friendship and comfort through its food and interior space.

With a nature theme and the signature usage of lines in the interior design, The Embassy infuses natural clean lines that symbolise the fluidity of time, space and evolution that connects all of us in our daily journey and adventure. The Embassy offers cuisine from East & West that blends a culinary combination of something for everybody on one menu.

Our review started off with an order of the cool Iced Mocha RM 14.00 which is matched with our breakfast set.

The Breakfast set that we ordered to taste is the Ambassador's Big Breakfast  RM 28.00. Our orders came with 2 sunny sides up, toasted sourdough; with 2 pieces of hash brown, beef bacon, chicken bratwurst, mushrooms, grilled tomatoes and baked beans.

Next; we decided to order a salad which is the Oriental Grilled Ribeye Salad RM 24.00. This salad is a little heavy as it comes with streaks of grill rib-eye that is accompanied with fresh leafy greens, tomatoes, cucumber and cilantro served with sesame-soy dressing. A balance salad which can easily be a meal for small eaters.

Next, comes the mains which I ordered the SynFull Roast Chicken for a half chicken portion (RM 35.00). For the smaller eater, you can order the quarter chicken set (RM26.00). You can see that this is a real treat as the skin was a roast to a nice crisp while the meat was still juicy and succulent. We can taste the strong flavor of the spices and herbs marinade that was imbued into the meat. This wholesome meal is served with seasonal vegetables, rosemary butter potatoes and served with a creamy mushroom sauce.

For those that loves the carbs; can order a pasta which we had is the Carbonara (RM 22.00). For those that loves the cheesy feel of the Carbonara sauce will attest to this dish. The pasta was cooked with a smooth cheesy cream sauce,  mushrooms, Parmesan cheese and topped with beef bacon. I am not a big fan of pasta, but this one hit the right note for me.

Our last main was the Embassy Nasi Istimewa RM 28.00. Here at Embassy, they do provide a number of local delights. Apparently, the recipe of these dishes is from one of the owner's mothers which she has meticulously trained the chef to cook it at close as possible to her recipe. This Nasi Istimewa is served with the Ayam Pindang together with fried rice, anchovies, Tempe Sambal, fried cabbage, Papadams, Kerabu Mangga and topped with sunny side egg. I would have preferred the dish served with plain white rice, as it will be more tasteful.

By the time we tasted the last mains, we were too full to even order our dessert.

Masakan Melayu Asli at The Place Restaurant Tropicana Avenue Petaling Jaya

You probably wondering how you could get Masakan Melayu Asli from a restaurant that is named as The Place Restaurant which is located at the newly completed Shopping Mall at Tropicana Avenue, Petaling Jaya. But that was exactly where we tasted some delicious and home cooked recipe at this newly opened restaurant.

The Place Restaurant Address
P-G-06 Tropicana Avenue No 12
Petaling Jaya, Malaysia

From the frontage, many are wondering that this restaurant looks more like a furniture shop without any hint of a Malay restaurant, but once you have gotten comfortable with the setting, you will soon be surprised with the wonderful Malay dishes that are specially cooked from the recipe of the owner. Not only the taste of the dish is aromatic and flavourful, it is also very healthy as the owner mission is to cook healthy delicious Malay cuisine using Olive oil for some of their dishes and Grape seed oil in their Nasi Lemak.

We started our review with a starter of Prawn Fritter aka Cucur Udang (RM13.00). The first bite of this fritters has us amazed as the texture of the Cucur Udang skin was fluffy crisp much like the tempura crisp. It literally melts in the mouth. With the filling of cabbage, chili, prawns and vegetables; you really will want to go for a second or the third helping on this.

Moving on, we tasted the main specialty of The Place which is the Nasi Dagang Set (RM22.00) which is of the Terengganu origin as compared to most that are serving the Kelantanese version. Besides the specialty of the rice which is served plain white with condiments and cabbages, the next main key of the Nasi Dagang is this Ikan Tongkol.

As highlighted by the owner, this dish takes a lot of effort to cook; as the fish has to be prepared up to a day in advance thru some special treatment to ensure that the taste and texture of the fish are firm and taste perfect when cooked.

Next; we tasted the Sup Tulang Set (RM20.00), This dish is served complete with white rice (basmati), sambal belacan, cucumber and raw long beans. Credit goes to the soup which has a strong spice aroma and fragrant of the cooked beef which was de-boned naturally from the many hours of cooking. The owner used the Beef Rib as it was meaty; and still retain a slight chewy texture which we like. Needless to say, we finish the soup right up to the last drop. Credits are also given to the in-house made Sambal Belacan which although is quite spicy is at the same time addictive that came along with the rice set.

The third mains that we had is the Assam Pedas Set (RM20.00). There are many variations of Assam Pedas from the different part of Malaysia. At The Place Restaurant; they served the Melaka style which uses Belacan and has a strong distinctive taste with a light sourish and spicy taste. The usage of Ikan Pari aka Sting Ray was perfect for this dish as it blended well with the natural flavor of the Assam Pedas. This rice set also comes with a half salted eggs which add an extra flavor to this dish

Our final rice set is the Ayam Goreng Sambal Java Set (RM20.00). Although the chicken looks dried from the outside; upon the first bite, we can taste the natural taste of the chicken with its marinade in its full flavour. This rice dish is served with a special home cooked Sambal Java which will make you asking for more. Served with a Fried Beancurd and the Sup Tulang soup, this meals makes a hearty meal all in one especially for fans of fried chicken. You can also order the Kampung Fried Chicken -  though its' meat is a little bit chewier.

Our final mains is the Srepov Aglio Olio (RM 20.00). You can never find this anywhere else as this special sauce was created by the owner Cambodian maid which marries the Cambodian style with Malay influence; as it has some chili spice in it. Cooked with a dollop of garlic, chili, shallot, and prawns, it is a worthy taste to tantalized your taste-bud.

For dessert, there are a few offering at The Place Restaurant, my personal favorite is the Bubur Durian With Nasi Pulut (RM20.00). The owner uses fresh durian which is then cooked with fresh coconut milk into a creamy texture; no sugar are added to this dessert, the sweetness level of the dessert are naturally from the durian itself.

Our last dessert is the Banana Fritter aka Pisang Goreng with Cheese (RM15.00). This Banana which is coated with a nice crisp batter, are served with condensed milk and topped with sprinkles of cheese.

At The Place Restaurant, the smoothies that are served here are 100% from the fruits, no sugar are added to any of the smoothies. We had the Beet Root Smoothies (RM12.00) to taste out the natural flavors of this concoction. The owner also mentioned that all its fruit goes thru a stage of cleaning where they will remove the waxy surface from the fruit before going into the smoothies blender.

Last but not least is the Tenom Coffee (RM8.00 single serving) to finish our meal at The Place. These coffee beans hail from Tenom, Sabah. Locally grown and roasted; you might want to give this a try out to compare it with the imported beans that you are so accustomed to.

So, now you know where you can get to taste out some of the authentic healthy Malay traditional dishes.

De Centrum Mall Bangi 1957 Kopi + Makan Bangi Hangout Cafe

Looking for a place to hang out with your friends and families in Bangi, there is this new cafe, 1957 Kopi Makan at the De Centrum Mall in Bangi.

1957 Kopi + Makan Cafe Address
De Centrum Mall, Jalan Ikram-Uniten
Kajang, Malaysia

At 1957 Kopi + Makan cafe, you will be greeted with a modern cafe setting. The cafe started more than 1 year ago with its menu featuring the local food such as the Nasi Lemak Ayam Berempah and local favourites. Recently, they have included in the new menu, some western delights to offers its customer a more varied choice. We had the chance to taste out some of these western fares and some local favourite dishes.

Our review started with an order of the Nicoise Salad (RM12.90). A combo of potatoes stack with French Beans, Cherry Tomatoes, Black Olives and Smoked Salmon with a vinegarette dressing topped with a Poached Egg.

After which, we sampled the Big Breakfast Set (RM28.90). A complete breakfast set with a choice of eggs done to your style i.e. Sunny side up, poached or scrambled. The Set also comes with sausage, baked beans, grilled tomatoes and a choice of chicken ham or beef bacon. Every order of the breakfast set comes with a glass of orange juice to complete a hearty breakfast. If you are a small eater, this Big breakfast can be had for 2 persons.

Moving along, we had the Chicken Chop (RM16.90). You can opt for 3 styles of cooking for your Chicken Chop which is the Hainan, Black Pepper or Mushroom sauce to go with your Chicken Chop. We had the Black Pepper style for our order. At 1957 Kopi + Makan, the sauce is not drenched on the Chop but instead serves separately, which is better especially for those that does not like it too saucy. We like the deep fried crisp to the chicken while the meat was still tender and succulent.

Our second mains was the Roasted Chicken (RM17.90). We really like this as the roasted chicken skin coupled with the creamy thyme sauce was perfectly matched out. Served with the accompaniments of mix potato and poached vegetables. Needless to say, we finish not only the chicken but the sauce as well.

1957 Kopi + Makan started off serving local dishes, so, we wanted to taste out one of its speciality dish which is the Nasi Kerabu Percik (RM15.90). This rice dish is served with cucumber pickled and raw sliced cabbages.

For snacks, we were strongly recommended with this Keropok Lekor (RM8.90) which was sourced directly from Terengganu. One of the main difference from the keropok lekor that we are familiar with its' tough chewy texture type. Incidentally, these type of keropok has been added with a voluminous amount of flour. But at 1957, these are very different as the inside texture is a soft type which has a stronger fish taste. It is truly a taste experience of a real Keropok Lekor as we were so used to the flour based type.

For desserts, we had a fusion Fried Banana Fritter aptly named as Pisang Special (RM5.90) which is topped with chocolate syrup and dashes of cheese to provide a milky taste to this dessert. Best eaten with an added scoop of vanilla ice cream that gives it a cool and hot feel to this special dessert.

No matter how much food we have tasted, as Malaysian, we will fondly love the taste of Malaysian Food as we discover it at Sepiring at Mid Valley which serves some unique Malaysian Food. We are here to find out exactly what so unique about the Malaysian food that is served here.

Sepiring Mid Valley Address
Lot FK010, First Floor, South Court

Lingakaran Syed Putra

We started off with some Malaysian rice dishes for this review. For Kelantan folks, this Nyonya Nasi Ulam with Ayam Percik RM25.90 will definitely appeal to you. In place of the familiar Nasi Kerabu, the chef gives it a twist with a marriage of the Nasi Ulam. Served with Keropok Lekor at the sides with a lovely Telur Masin, the dish is absolutely tasty.

Kuantan Food: Ramin By The River Restaurant Mega View Hotel Kuantan Food Promotion

Kuantan Megaview Hotel Ramin By The River

We did not anticipate that our short holiday to Kuantan coincide with the Hari Raya Haji which means most of the popular Kuantan Malay food store are closed for this holiday season. So, we end up exploring on other Kuantan food to eat.

Kuantan Megaview Hotel Ramin By The River Dining Area

As we were staying at the Mega View Hotel Kuantan, we decided to check out a special ala carte set lunch and dinner promotion at Ramin By The River Restaurant that was ongoing.

Kuantan Megaview Hotel Ramin By The River Dining Area

The restaurant is nicely set up with a garden wedding decor theme much like a wedding reception setup. The other nice feel about dining at the Ramin By The River Restaurant is the spectacular river view, especially in the evening.

Kuantan Mega View Hotel Ramin By The River Tom Yum

Since there were 6 of us which are heavy eaters; we decided to order the 7 dishes set which the first is the Clear TomYam Seafood Soup. For me, the soup was a little sourish slurping up directly but eaten with rice, is much better.

Kuantan Mega View Hotel Ramin By The River Crispy Fried Chicken

Next dish is the Fried Crispy Chicken. The chicken is fried to a crisp and was served with a Thai dipping sauce at the sides.

Kuantan Mega View Hotel Ramin By The River Crispy Nyonya Steam Fish

Followed by the Steam fish in Nyonya Sauce. The Nyonya sauce was quite nicely done and was best eaten with white rice. The Siakap fish was very fresh and the meat texture was firm without any smelly taste normally associated with this type of fish.

Kuantan Mega View Hotel Ramin By The River Crispy Assam Sotong

After that, we had the Assam Sotong; which has a strong Assam sambal flavoured. With the bouncy and firm texture of the fresh squid, it was another dish which we had to order our add-on rice to goes with the Assam sauce.

Kuantan Mega View Hotel Ramin By The River Crispy Planta Prawn

Our order of the prawns is the Crispy Planta Prawn. The prawns were fried to a crisp texture and cooked with the Planta sauce. This is very much a change from the standard butter prawns; a first for us to try this method of cooking the prawns.

Kuantan Mega View Hotel Ramin By The River Fried Eggs With Prawn

To complement our other spicy dishes we ordered the Fried Eggs With Prawns.

Kuantan Mega View Hotel Ramin By The River King of Vegetables

For vegetables; we had the King of Vegetables with Belacan. Love this as we can really taste the strong flavoured of the Kuantan belacan evidently in this dish.

Kuantan Mega View Hotel Ramin By The River Rojak Buah

The set dinner also comes with a complimentary Rojak Buah. This Rojak Buah is made from the family owned secret sauce. We were a little delighted to taste this Rojak as our normal expectation are not too high for Rojak Buah that are usually served at hotels. Apparently, the specialty is the dry shrimp that was used to make the sauce.

Kuantan Mega View Hotel Ramin By The River Fruit Platter

and a complimentary Fruit Platter for dessert to end our meals.

Kuantan Mega View Hotel Ramin By The River Menu
This set cost RM258.00 ++. To us from KL, it is a real value for money deal. We were quite surprised that hotel food can be this good in Kuantan at Ramin By The River Restaurant and the service was rather quick.

Kuantan Mega View Hotel Ramin By The River Pokemon Pikachu Burger

The next day, before heading back to Kuala Lumpur, we decided to try out a special dish which is Pokemon Burger (RM13.90) that was on offered by Ramin By The River Restaurant which looks very cute and enticing. It turns out that the burger patties was made with a rendang inspired sauce. It would have been better if the Chef uses a teriyaki based patties instead which will taste better to us.

Kuantan Mega View Hotel Ramin By The River Mee Mamak

Next, we tried out Ramin By The River Restaurant - 2 signature ala-carte dishes which the first is the Mee Mamak (RM13.90). Laden with seafood like prawns & cuttlefish, bean curd and potatoes it was cooked with the right sauce combination that was very flavourful.

Kuantan Mega View Hotel Ramin By The River Nasi Goreng

and the second one is the Nasi Goreng Kampung (RM16.90). We like the sambal belacan that came with it; as it has that special pungent taste. The spicy fried rice is served with a piece of Fried Chicken, Eggs, Salted Fish, Acar, Kacang, Ikan Bilis and the special sambal sotong.

Kuantan Mega View Hotel Ramin By The River Pei Pa Chicken

We were told that the Chef has also 2 special dish which was not on the menu; the first is the Pei Pa Chicken. The skin was roasted to a nice soft crisp and bedded with a special Pei Pa sauce which was perfect eaten with white rice.

Kuantan Mega View Hotel Ramin By The River Vienna Prawns

and the second dish is the Vienna Prawns. The prawns are set on skewers and fried to a deep crisp before being topped with a special sauce. A nice meal; as a snack instead.

We vouch; to make our next Kuantan food trail seeking out some of Kuantan delicious food on our next visit to Kuantan in the distant future.
