Setapak Cafe : La Figue Cafe Bakery Restaurant PV128 Setapak - A Neighbour Cafe

Setapak is well known for many of its food offerings. We came about La Figue Cafe Bakery Restaurant formerly known Tappers Cafe which is located at PV128 Setapak which was recently opened for some western food with a local touch.

La Figue Cafe Bakery Restaurant Address
G-M 26, PV128, Jalan Genting Kelang,
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

At La Figue Cafe Bakery Restaurant; one of its key offerings is that food must be served in a jiffy especially for lunch customers where time is limited. For those that have the time, you can sit in; to enjoy the colonial setting that this cafe offers.

At La Figue Cafe Bakery Restaurant, it is a 2 in one cafe where freshly baked pastries are offered to its customers.

Each of these pastries is baked in small quantity and only when it is finished, a new batch will go into the oven; this is to ensure customers will not have to live with stale pastry and wastages.

We started our review with a hearty Big Breakfast Set (RM13.90). Customers have the option to choose either the Chicken Ham or Beef Bacon. The set comes with sauteed mushroom, scrambled eggs, a piece of hash brown, sausage, baked beans and a piece of toast. For any order of the breakfast set, it is served with either a cup of tea or coffee.

Next, we tried out some of the Lunch Set promotion; the first of which is the Hainanese Chicken Chop (RM13.90).  The Chicken chop is fried to a nice brown crisp and is served with baked potatoes, carrots, and green beans. Customers have a choice of whether to have their Hainanese sauce served separately or as a topped on to the Chicken Chop.

For fans of creamy carbonara, this second Lunch Set which is the Spaghetti Carbonara With Chicken Ham (RM14.90) will surely be your choice.

The next dish is suitable for a vegan or non-meat eater as the spaghetti is cooked Aglio Olio and topped with a sauteed mushroom sauce with a Fried Tofu. The tofu steak is lightly coated with a special batter and then lightly fried to give you a nice bite texture. This dish is called Spaghetti Aglio Olio With Tofu Steak (RM13.90).

the last lunch set, we had; is the Fish and Chip Set (RM13.90). Kids will normally like this as it is very easy to eat and the dish is served with French Fries and coleslaw. For all the set lunch orders; for an additional of RM1.00 customer get to order a Honey Lemon, Lemon Tea, Lime Juice or  Sirap Bandung.

We then moved on to taste 3 more dishes from the La Figue Cafe Bakery Restaurant menu; the first of which is the Chicken Chop With Mushroom Sauce (RM14.90). This is quite similar to the Hainanese Chicken Chop except that the sauce is the Mushroom sauce and the sides are the fried potatoes wedges.

followed by the Chicken Parmigiana (RM14.90). The fried boneless chicken thigh is topped with a melted cheese and served with French Fries and Salads.

the last dish from the main menu that we had is the Chicken Picatta (RM13.90). We really like the savory capers sauce that came with the grilled chicken breast. This chicken dish is served with mash potatoes with a nice brown sauce. Perfectly complimented to the chicken meat.

At La Figue Cafe Bakery Restaurant, there also serves an array of Pizza which has a thin crust base that gives a crunchy bite. The first Pizza we tasted is the Margarita Pizza (RM12.90), which is topped with tomatoes, basil, and cheese.

Next, we had the Hawaiian Pizza (RM13.90). Comprising of small chunks of chicken meat with pineapples and a generous amount of cheese topping.

The last Pizza is the Okonomi Pizza (RM13.90), this is a fusion pizza which is married to a Japanese influence that uses a mayonnaise-based with a topping of Bonito flakes.

Overall we find the La Figue Cafe Bakery Restaurant offering a wide variety of popular Western fares in a nice cozy environment without burning a big hole in your wallet.

MIGF 2016 Menu Samplings On The Fourteenth Restaurant Berjaya Times Square Hotel Kuala Lumpur

Samplings On The Fourteenth Restaurant located at Level 14, East Tower Berjaya Times Square Hotel Kuala Lumpur 1 Jalan Imbi, 55100 Kuala Lumpur has once again in 2016, taking part in the Malaysia International Gastronomy Festival (MIGF 2016).

Dining at Samplings On The Fourteenth is a classy affair; this is the place to bring that special someone for a romantic rendezvous where the unrivalled night views of the bustling Kuala Lumpur City Centre adorned your backdrop and the refined western fare are the key ingredients for a perfect date. It’s also great for entertaining clients as well, with intimate private dining rooms ideal for functions or celebrations of all types.

Samplings On The Fourteenth Restaurant MIGF Full Festival Menu

We started off our review with an Amuse-Bouche which is the Lamb Tartlet with Goat Cheese Croquetas. With a startling contrast of flavours and textures, this opening course prepares us for an evening of fine cuisine.

For this festival menu, Samplings On The Fourteenth has not just 1 starter but 2 in total; the first of which is the Pan-Fried Haloumi, Chilled Marinated Vegetables in Season and Lemon Emulsion. The dish was delicately presented with the delicious pan-fried halloumi at the epicentre which is encircled by vegetables.

Wine Pairing - Hugel Gentil Alsace France Vintage 2014

The second starter is the Poached Baby Mackerel, Chick Pea Puree, Smoked Garlic Cream and Walnut. We love the fine texture of the baby mackerel.

Wine Pairing - Tahuna Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, Vintage 2014

the next course is the Green Pea Cream with Artichoke Chips and Tomato Tartar Soup.

Before we could dig into the portion that was served to us, the server informs that this was, in fact, the soup course and we have to wait for them to serve the soup which comes in a teapot right before our eyes.

As we are readied for our next course, Chef Val has prepared a special Malibu Lime Sorbet as a palate cleanser before our main course. A strong limey taste was very evident in the sorbet that enlightens our senses. Served on a half cut coconut shell, it was a real treat as it prepares our taste-buds in anticipation of the next dish.

For the Main Course, there is 3 selection for you to choose from, as steak lovers, I chose the Wagyu Beef Medallion, Pumpkin with a Hint of Xeres Vinegar, Duck Foie Gras and Thyme Juice. I love the pan grill Foie Gras and the steak was also grilled to the right tender texture that matches with the accompanying sauce. Almost all the guest for the night has chosen this course.

Wine Pairing - Trivento Reserve Malbec, Vintage 2014

The second main course that diners can choose it the Slow-Cooked Lamb Cutlet, Baked Stuffed Red Onion, Glazed Root Vegetables and Jus of Cherry.

OR for fish fans, they can choose the third main course which is the Pan-Fried Halibut Fillet, Smoked Tomato Puree, Parsnips and Shellfish Froth.

For dessert, the MIGF menu at Samplings On The Fourteenth Restaurant is the Guanaja Chocolate Delice, Sea Salt Flakes, Butter Scotch, Cream Cheese Mousseline. The dessert is impressively decorated which feast the sweet tooth enthusiast. A real nice balance of sweet and salty end to our review.

Prices for the Full Festival Menu are

Without Wines: RM228 nett per person

Wayne's Cafe Sri Petaling - A Hidden Hainanese Western and Oriental Delights

Wayne Cafe Sri Petaling

In the early 50, they were many Hainanese Chef that can cook very delicious Western dishes. The reason being was most of the Hainanese usually work as Chef which was taught how to cook western dishes by the colonial master. I am one of those that frequent Hainanese Western food in the restaurant like the old Coliseum (Jalan TAR), Le Coq (Ampang) and Yut Kee (Jalan Dang Wangi) among others that I have lost touch with.

With that taste lingering, we had a review at the Wayne's Cafe Sri Petaling located 10, Jalan Radin Bagus 6, Sri Petaling, 57000 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia that claimed to serves some of these authentic Hainanese western delights.

Wayne's Cafe Sri Petaling

Wayne's is the name of the owners' son and the setup is one of the modern cafe settings that is great for a get-together or family dining.

The owner has gotten Uncle Phua - a retired chef of 77 years old who has over 50 years western culinary experience to assist in Wayne's cafe menu which consists of Uncle Phua signature dish which is the English Style Roast Pork.

Our dinner started off with the order of the Golden Meat Ball (RM18.00). It is a deep fried homemade meatball recipe that has its origin. It is served with the freshly made Hainanese Chilli Sauce (the Hainanese Chicken Rice Chilli Sauce) which are made on a daily basis.

The next appetiser is by the owner family recipe Choon Kuen Spring Roll (RM18.00). This Spring roll is unlike the normal one that uses the popiah skin but instead it uses the pig caul fats. When I was a child, these kind of spring rolls were quite common; nowadays it is very hard to find one that takes quite an effort to make. Eating this spring rolls remind me of those days. This family recipe uses the right amount of ingredient in the filling and is steamed before it is coated with a batter and deep fried to a crunchy, crispy texture.

For the Mains, we had the Uncle Phua Signature Roast Pork (RM25.00). Using Uncle Phua secret recipe is to marinade the Pork Belly and the special treatment of the meat. It is then rolled up and tied like a log and after one day it is then put in the oven with a combination of slow gentle heat to tenderise the meat, plus a shorter blast at a higher heat to crisp up the skin. The end result, you get is a juicy meat while having a crispy skin that married well with the apple sauce.

The next Mains is the Spanish Pork Chop (RM25.00). Compare to other Pork Chop, the meat that is used is the Pork Neck meat, which has a very small amount of fats while its' meat has a very tenderly texture. The Pork chop is grilled to the right char; is served with a slice of grilled apple and served with brown sauce.

Besides serving Western Food, Wayne's Cafe Sri Petaling does offer diners a number of oriental selection for you to savour in. Among these are Fried Rice with Roast Pork, or another one of Uncle Phua signature noodle which is the Fried Tung Fun with BitterGourd. But, for today, we tasted the Fried Kwai Fa Mien (RM15.00), this is another one of the dishes from the owners family.

So, what is so special about this Fried Kwai Fa Mien? For one, there are a lot of ingredients that are used to cooked this Yee Mee; which is pork strip, diced prawns, bean sprout, onion, cabbage and most important eggs that are fried together with a special sauce and topped with the strip of lettuce. The Wok Hei was just great as we can smelt the flavourful aroma of the noodle and its ingredients.

To finish off our meal, my partner had the Wayne's Signature Coffee (RM11.00). The coffee beans used at Wayne's Cafe Sri Petaling is from Lavazza.

While I had the Affogato (RM11.00) to end my review.
