SRI HARTAMAS FOOD: Once in a while we have craving for some real smoke dishes. Actually, there aren't many restaurants that serve credible smoke dishes in Kuala Lumpur. We had a taste out at the BreadFruits which is located at 17, Jalan 26/70A, Desa Sri Hartamas, 50480, Kuala Lumpur especially on these smoked dishes.
BreadFruits has been in operation for quite a while at bustling Desa Sri Hartamas and have recently opened a new outlet in Taman Desa, Old Klang Road. Bread Fruits are more popular for their offering of breakfast and fusion dishes which we had an opportunity to taste it later.

We started off with an order of Mother's Smoked Chicken (1/4 - RM25, 1/2 - RM RM32, Full Bird RM48). It has a very smoky flavourful when the dish arrives at the table. The chicken is well seasoned with a combination of mix spices and smoked in a barrel with applewood chips. The end result is that the chicken skin has a nice soft crisp while the meat retains its juiciness in it. This smoked chicken is served with Roasted Potatoes and Greek salad.
Next, we had the Son's Smoked Saba Mackerel (RM38 per fish) which is a mackerel fish from Norway. This fish is also seasoned with mix spice seasoning. When we cut open the fish, we can see the smoke still coming out of the fish meat. It is nicely marinated and the use of the applewood chips does it work to enhance the natural flavour of the fish with a slight hint of smoky flavour. This smoked fish dish is served with Rockets and Greek salad.
The last smoke dish we had, is the Father's Smoke Pork Shoulder (150 g - RM25, 300g - RM38). The pork shoulder that was used is Sakura pork. This Smoked Pork Shoulder is served with Roasted Potatoes and Greek salad. Please note that there is a waiting time for the smoke dishes. Patrons have to wait at least 15 to 20 minutes for these dishes to be served.
Besides smoke dishes, to fill up our stomach we ordered the Curry Cauliflower Rocket (RM28) which is a full vegetable salad dish comprising of cauliflower that is spiced up with curried Tumeric and drizzles with chimichurri pesto.
At its shop, Bread Fruits does sell Wild honey and fresh fruits and needless to say, there are some dishes which uses this natural ingredient and one of these is the Wild Honey French Toast (RM24). You can order your Toast with Roasted Banana, Passion Fruits, Bacon, Strawberry or Strawberry, Banana & Passion Fruit. And for those that love the toast with ice cream; can add on with an RM2 per scoop.
For a fusion dish, we ordered the Tonkotsu Onsen Egg Carbonara (RM24). The broth for the dish is made from 24 hours of simmered pork bone broth to enhance the full-bodied flavoured to the broth. It is served with a homemade slice of white Japanese Chasu and Onsen Egg.
Our last order is the Moroccan Fried Chicken Popcorn which is served with garlic rice. This has a different flavour as compared to the Smoked Chicken. Deep-fried to a nice crisp on the outside and tender succulent inside, it is a nice to eat this as a snack with a nice glass of wine or beer.
