MOMOCHAN is setup with a modern Japanese setting and one that has a section that is pet-friendly for those that loves to bring their pet for a day out. For Christmas 2019, Momochan has crafted out about 20 specialty dishes to usher this festive season with a special twist including a special Vegetarian dish too.

MOMOCHAN JAYA ONE THE SQUARE JAPANESE RESTAURANT CHRISTMAS 2019 MENU
Momochan does not offer any Christmas Set Menu like most restaurant but these dishes can be ordered ala-carte, so you actually can choose what to eat. Here are some of those specialities dish that we tasted; starting off with an appetiser dish named Shiitake Nanban (RM 12.90). This dish reminds me of the Shiitake Mushroom Yong Tau Foo but instead of using fish paste as the filling, the Chef uses chicken meat paste which has been flavoured. It is served with an inhouse Nanban sauce with bits of eggs, celery, mayonnaise which adds a soft bite to this starter.
Next is the Plain Chawanmushi with Yuzu Chili (RM 5.90). This is quite special as the Chef adds a twist with a topping of dashi flavoured broth and a tiny scoop of wasabi to give it that mustardy taste to the silky smooth plain chawanmushi.
Another appetiser starter that we loved is the Japanese Karaage Winglets (RM 12.90). The karaage barter that are used to coat the chicken winglet are made in-house and not purchased. Normally karaage chicken has a thicker coating but here; it is very thinly coated. The flavour are engulfed with the crispy skin on the outside while the inner meat was still tender, well-marinated and juicy.
There are 3 main dishes under the Christmas menu, the first of which is the Christmas Beef Special (RM 31.90). The beef meat are first sous-vide and then pan seared to a nice char on the outside and then topped with a Ponzu sauce with grated radish. The thinly sliced 150 gram of tenderloin meat was superb and married well with the sauce which has a slight sourish undertone while the meat texture was nicely done and have a nice chewy bite.
The second main dish that you might like to taste is the Japanese Southern Fried Chicken (RM 20.90). We asked why he served this fried chicken dish and he says that in Japan, there is a following that during Christmas the Japanese will go to KFC for their fried chicken, so he created this special dish with an infused idea of adding some Japanese flavour into this chicken dish. Even the coleslaw has an added wasabi that surprising was quite unique.
The last main dish is a vegetarian dish which is also a pasta dish as well which is named as MOMOCHAN Loves Vegetables (RM 18.90). Instead of using Italian pasta, it is replaced with Ramen; while the sauce is a tomato based with pumpkin puree. The deep fried Enoki which is shaped as a flowerette is laid on top of this pasta dish.
For dessert, there is no Japanese twist to it as we were served the Homemade Belgian Chocolate Ice Cream (RM 11.90). It has a very strong, bitterly sweet and rich chocolatey taste that we like and without any hesitation went for a second helping of it.
